My Knees Rustle Like an Aspen in the Wind

Anyone else? It's not all the time, they're generally clicky and sore, but by the end of the day they've developed this dry rustle when I go up and down stairs.

What's causing it? Not going to ask Dr google as he'll just say it's knee cancer Wink

Yes. Mainly the right one on which I had surgery years ago but still have bits of cartilage floating around in. Left one not perfect though.

Dr Google is more likely to suggest cartilage / ligament / arthritis type stuff I suspectSmile

Ah. Thanks. So does that mean I should or shouldn't be doing knee bends or whatever?

Actually you might want to go to the real doctor. When I originally had surgery I went to physio where it was all about strenthening the muscles in the leg to help stabilise the knee while cartilage / ligaments (had damaged just about everything in hideous squash injury, stupid sport!) healed.

Was seen again last year after a bit of my loose cartilage got lodged in an awkward place and caused intense pain for a few weeks and the consultant was keen for me not to do anything that would exacerbate it.

As they're sore I would probably get a referral so that you don't do anything to make them worse.

Thanks again :) am seeing doc again on Friday - he thinks I might have serum negative rheumatoid arthritis (bleugh) but I keep forgetting to ask about this symptom as it's a late in the day onset...

I have a knee like this. I fell downstairs a few years ago and wrenched it good and proper and now it sounds like paper crackling when I walk upstairs and feels like lots of gritty bits moving around. No noise when coming down, but that hurts more Confused

I was recently diagnosed with a rheumatic illness, but they are not yet sure which one as so far so negative on all the bloods (except positive ANA and RNP-1), but they are leaning towards RA or lupus.

Ask for a rheumy referral and make sure the GP has done ANA/RNP and whatever else they need for lupus etc!

Hey lackadaisycal :) I've watched House and it's never lupus ;) but shall add to list for Friday's appointment...
