dental implant questions ...

I have done a search for this but have a few unanswered questions and would be really grateful if anyone who has had these could help. I knocked out my 2 front teeth in an accident when I was young and since 19 have had a bridge which is attached to the 2 teeth on either side - ie 4 'crowned' teeth and the gap bridged. It def needs re-newing 20 years on as my gums have receeded and the colour isn't that great. In fact, it has always looked really un-natural and I am very self-conscious of if. I am considering having the 4 teeth re-crowned and implants to replace the missing front teeth. I know this is a silly question, but is there any time when I would have 'gaps' if you see what I mean. Having gone through so much humiliation during my teenage years, I couldn't bear to have to walk around with no front teeth for even a day. (Sorry if this seems shallow in the light of more serious health problems) What happens when you have the implant posts put in? Do they immediately put in temporary implant teeth? Any advice really appreciated. Was originally considering just having the bridging redone but implants seem so much better and both cost a fortune.

Probably the best way to go about it would be to have the 2 teeth crowned and a temp denture made to replace the 2 missing thheth. The implants can then be placed and you wear the denture over them for the period of time necessary for them to "take", then have the two crons made to attach to the implants.

Missing teeth (I mean). TBH it is generally longer than a few weeks between the implants being placed and then the "tooth" part being added.

You will also need to be assessed to see if you are a suitable candidate (bone density, oral hygiene etc) particularly as you mention gum recession as that can also be a problem with implants.

Are you a dentist chicagomum? Trauma re denture etc too great as had to do this as teenager - too long and horrible to go into but cannot possibly do this again. If I had the bridge replaced, would I have the same problem? Out of interest, don't everyones's gums receed a little in 20 yrs or am I just bloody unlucky ?

Gum recession does come with age but varies a lot by individual depending on genetic inhertitance and also on how good your oral hygiene/diet has been
