reposting as getting no responses in children's health...

When DD (14) exercises, her knees get very hot, very red, and hot to the touch. But no pain. Any thoughts?

Will go to GP, but in the meantime, just wondered if anyone had any ideas about it?

Bump but no idea, it doesn't sound too bad if there is no pain?

hellymelly · 22/06/2012 22:31

I don't know but I had that as a teenager, i remember going to the GP who was clueless. I would get a bright red hot patch on each knee. Gradually it stopped as I got into my 20s and I have no idea what it was (am 48 now, with no obvious knee issues).

I used to have this. Nothing wrong with my knees now I've grown up.

When I exercise I still find that parts of me get red and hot to the touch, but it is just my body generating heat. The parts of me that don't particularly sweat much (arms around my elbows and knees) get read as they don't cool down easily.

thank you all... have also had a response on the other thread. I think I'll take her to GP anyway, as a friend suggested arthritis.. but without pain, not sure if that's the case. Comforting to know there are people out there who have had these symptoms but no major issues.

I was worried about arthritis at the time , as we have the rheumatoid type on both sides of the family, but there was no pain and nothing developed. There was no swelling either, which is more indicative of arthritis.

thanks hellymelly. She's had a very active day today and no redness/heat. Will keep an eye on it and if it recurs, will see GP. You imagine all sorts don't you, and I stopped googling as was getting worried/.

My 15 year old gets this. Sometimes it’s just the change in the temperature usually in the cold months going from cold soccer fields to the warm car or walking outside and it’s cold to inside the house. GP tested for ANAs and arthritis. All good there. Also ibuprofen can trigger the same response. Just track it and you will find a trend after time with the redness and spots and heat and cold and such. Good luck.

I remember having this as a teen and young adult. It happened when my legs were cold before i exercised or if i had been exercising in the cold.

JollyGiraffe · 26/12/2018 23:12

I had this as a teen and still get it occasionally now! They get hot and red and puffy. Have always been very active so not from body not being used to exercise.

No pain either. Never went to the doctor about it as it never bothered me too much.
