Fibroid problem. Sorry, a little TMI.

I have a couple of large fibroids, and have been trying to see if my diet affects them. I've cut out most wheat, all dairy, alcohol, and have been eating more beans and healthy stuff. My stomach is now flat (vast improvement from bloated for 99% of the month), the pain has gone completely, and they do seem a little more squishy than before, but I have had a dark brown discharge since the end of my af last week. It doesn't smell etc, so no signs of infection. I don't really know what's happening. Any ideas? I don't know how long it will take to see a GP as we've just moved house, or whether it's worth it. Confused

Thank you :)

My sister has fibroids, and for the last three weeks she has been getting brown discharge, so she had a swab done, just waiting for the results now.

Smile Thank you for answering.

I've googled, it can indicate that they are shrinking. I'll make an appointment with the GP though, just to make sure it's not an infection or something. I hope your sister's results are OK.

Thanks lady i hope you get yours sorted out to. Let me know how you get on, and yes thats what my sister thought, they were bursting or shrinking.

LadySybildeChocolate · 22/06/2012 15:02

Smile Fingers crossed. I'm just happy that they are not hurting now. My last af was lighter and had far less clots, so I hope that's the case. I kept waking up, expecting a flood. Blush Tell your sister to try cutting out dairy, wheat, alcohol, refined sugar, and pork products. Eat beans and fish instead.

Thank you so much for this; both my mum and nan had hysterectomies before 40 due to fibroids so I am really interested to find this out.

LadySybildeChocolate · 22/06/2012 17:56

That was the gynae's suggestion at first Hmm It was only when I emphasised the fact that I'm 34 and not quite ready for such drastic measures that he suggested medication to shrink them/surgery to remove them. I'm hoping to try a kinder way first, so will see how it goes. They do feel smaller, they don't hurt now which is progress.

Well it does seem a little extreme!

This was 10 years ago when my mum had hers though, 30+ for my Nan so a while ago, but a lot for a young woman to go through Sad

mirry2 · 22/06/2012 18:28

surely they don't still do hysterectomies routinely for fibrods?

LadySybildeChocolate · 22/06/2012 18:32

It's cheaper, mirry. My sister has them as well. The first thing her gynae suggested was a hysterectomy. She was trying for a baby at the time. Mine didn't mention embolisation until I asked about it. Women really do need to me informed before they see a gynaecologist, or they will end up having their uterus removed. It's depressing really. Sad

It hasn't stopped, yet. Sad I'm getting bored of it now.
