Tearfulness on/off 17 months after giving birth - or is it the contraceptive pill..?

I just wanted to know if it is common to suddenly become tearful at ridiculous (and serious) stuff 16, nearly 17 months after giving birth? I had a bit of PND for quite some time after giving birth (a good 9 months or so), I say a bit because it came and went but then it actually went... But I seem to become incredibly tearful very suddenly now instead, some days are worse than others and some days are fine, and yet others are fine and then I see something insignificant on TV and well up!!! And sometimes I genuinely don't know why I start crying, which is something I remember happening after giving birth on and off.

Do other mums experience this? I was not like this before becoming pregnant. It could perhaps also be the contraceptive pill, which I had not been on in 6 years but am now back on and aside from having had a period for about 3 months more or less constantly (am on second brand of pill now with doctors saying I have to give it a full 3 months on the new pill), I wonder if the pill could be to blame for the moods.

I am convinced it is hormonal, but I can't work out what is causing the problem exactly or what to do about it. I guess I would just like to hear others' stories, I find it quite stressful and wonder if I will ever be back to normal again!

Hi - my children are 10 and 7 and ever since the birth of mine, I've been way more teary/crying than ever before. I too cry at happy/sad things at the drop of a hat. Someone can be talking to me and I'll suddenly feel my chin quiver and have to really hold it in to stop tears forming!

Microgynon made me cry and so did Loestrin 30, so I changed to Loestrin 20. It could be the pill. I'm sure mine is hormonal.

Are you on a mini-pill/progesterone-only pill? I definitely became weepy and depressed on both of the ones I tried. In fact, it put me off ever using hormonal contraception ever again!

Hey, I am currently on Marvelon after starting out on Mercilon. I researched it loads as I wanted one with a low dose of both oestrogen and progesterone (got some bad some acne in my late twenties suddenly, poss pill-related, as wanted to avoid a repeat due to higher progesterone). Mercilon was better I think but the bleeding didn't stop and I was told it was too low a dose to control the bleeding, so I was switched on to Marvelon but I don't like it. Also think it has killed my sex drive :/

I just don't know what other contraceptives to use. I used the pill happily for 14 years and then came off it and now it just seems like a nightmare! But don't want to have a spiral as have heard many horror stories, and don't want a life of condoms!

I didn't realise that you can react differently to the very same pill you were on before kids either - I felt so nauseous on Microgynon, I went to the GP to check I wasn't pregnant. It was exactly like morning sickness. He switched me to Loestrin 20 (low dose pill) but I had headaches and crying etc.

Now- I'm not keen on taking any hormones and DH had the snip but would like to reduce my perid flow that stresses me out.
