How long until everything is back to normal?

I'd like some advice please! How long is it generally before things are back to normal 'down there' after childbirth? DD is now 3 1/2 months and I'm having a few issues especially when needing to go to the toilet. It feels like the poo is trying to come out of the wrong hole!

I've followed most of the recommendations of the physio who I saw after birth, so doing pelvic floor exercises each day (I was a bit lax with this after DS, I must admit), leaning backwards when needing to do a poo to lessen the pressure on the pelvic floor (although from what I've read now, this seems to be very very bad advice). I've been trying not to lift DS too much (very impractical) as he's rather heavy, but obviously I do need to lift him a few times a day and rescue him from the odd climbing frame... Both doctor and midwife said no lifting or housework for the first 6 weeks after DD was born, DH said "nice try"! So that one I had to ignore. I've also been doing a postnatal yoga course and trying to keep posture good etc.

Should I be worried that things are not quite right? I'm not in pain or anything, it just doesn't feel normal. Or am I just being impatient and should wait a little while longer before taking myself off to the doctor? I'm still breastfeeding if that makes a difference.

Go and see your GP for some reassurance. Why us your husband so unsupportive? Confused

urgh, I feared that would be the answer! Will try and get an appointment for next week.

In the meantime, you can ease your toilet troubles by putting your feet up on a stem when you go, rest your embows on your knees and keep your back in a straight diagonal line (no scrunching up), also push your tummy in and out whilst you breathe rather than straining.

I had a 4th degree tear after DS and was told this was the easiest way of opening your bowels without straining or causing any damage.

I should have said, the putting your feet on a step is to bring your knees up slightly higher than your hips. It feels stupid, but it works.

I do what Hobs said too and I pant rather than push. I also hold my pelvic floor with some loo paper and it really helps.
