Do you think Hausfrau? Maybe it is all part and parcel of being tense?

Have just chatted on msn to Doormat and she thinks I shoudl get checked out by GP.

there was a small scale study in the BMJ a couple of years ago showing that 70% of women responded to cognitive therapy i.e. sessions with a Clinical Psychologist. I think IBS is recognised as a classic psychosomatic condition. Maybe your GP could get you referred?

I am not sure if IBS is what I actually have. I get incredibly painful spasms (think labour pains but in the bum/stomach) usually first thing in the morning when my bladder and bowel is full. It is as if thee is competition for space and that causes the spasm. Usually going to the loo sorts everything out, but today I was bad afterwards too and looked IBS up in my medical encyclopaedia. It mentioned a few other symptoms I might be having too now I notice them, eg occasional bad wind and mucus. Sorry if TMI.

I also suffer very badly with IBS and have done for years.
Fibre definately makes me worse,as does stress.
After suffering with dashes to the loo(sorry if TMI),I had an allergy test done with Yorktest which shows I'm intollerant to lots of things, but mainly gluten, wheat, and yeast. If I exclude these from my diet,my IBS virtually disappears. The test cost me £270 but it was the best £270 I've ever spent and worth every penny!

Dumbledoresgirl-I've actually got a really helpful book on alternative IBS treatments such as relaxation,self-hypnosis and acupuncture. It also explains diet and the digestive system.
You can have the book if you're interested-just email me your address at louandtwoatyahoodotcodotuk and I'll send it to you.HTH.

Oh Bubbaloo, only just seen this. How rude of me not to respond sooner. Actually, I am now beginning to think I am barking up the wrong tree with IBS. Maybe it is PID instead?

DP has IBS and was recommend fibre too but that made him worse...ALOT worse. Peppermint tea is good and he carries extra stroing mints with him for when he has spasms in public.

He avoids dairy as far as he is able and has cut back but not eliminated wheat and finds it more managable now.

Apparently IBS is much more common in women after childbirth but i am not an expert by any means
It is worth having a GP diagnose properly though
