Have had a cold for a few days and last 24 hours have been almost constant coughing due to tickle in the throat. Hardly slept last night and face another night the same. Am almost being sick I am coughing so hard. Any suggestions?

If it gets worse go to your GP and get tested for Whooping Cough. Some antibiotics could help stop you passing it on to vulnerable people.

I am seven weeks in and have just found out I may have given it to a friends baby who was not fully vaccinated. I feel awful now.

The cough was a very irritating tickly cough for four weeks before I started to make the classic whooping sound.

It made me sick dozens of times (and still does) and lots of the time it was really hard to get my breath in after coughing.

It might not be whooping cough but there is a fair bit going around at the moment and it's getting missed because GPs are not used to seeing it.

Cough syrup and inhalers don't seem to help me much.

I hope for your sake it isn't because it feels like it goes on forever!

Crikey, sorry to hear that! Hope you get better soon! I hope this will turn out to be less serious...

Thanks. It's a lot better than it was.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

This happens to me every single time I get a cold. Apparently it's actually caused by mucus dripping down the back of the throat which is thinner and less easy to cough up than the more normal chesty phlegm.

Steams helps me a bit. Just before bed do the whole head over a bowl routine - helps clear out the sinuses a bit which is where the mucus is coming from.

Will try that thanks Crikey.

Beconase nose sprays are good for post nasal drips. You can buy it over the counter. Also, if you are sure it is just a dry cough and have ruled out whooping cough, you could use pholcodeine (over the counter, in pharmacy section) to stop/reduce your cough.

Hope you get better soon and yes, there is a lot of whooping cough this year and it is horrible (also called the 100 day cough).
