2 weeks ago i started with diarrhoea and tummy cramps thought it was usual tummy bug after 48hrs i went to see gp as i was going abroad but she said it can take a week to clear.... 2 weeks later i still have it with bad cramps gas and on monday i passed blood and mucos so after freaking out i went to see the doctor she needs a sample :) to be sent off she thought it could be some some infection with a big name beginning with c and it can take a while to clear.... but if sample doesnt show up anything they will have to investigate for the big C although she thinks its very unlikely but cause shes now said the word im really fretting so i guess im looking for some friendly advice from you and reassurance as im a worrier when hear that word :( thanks

Clostridium Difficile?

Think it's a big jump for gp to suggest stool sample then cancer investigations Hmm

It could be all manner of things, you may have a degree of inflammation post infection.

And yes C Diff is slow to settle.

It's good to be vigilant but don't worry as it hopefully will settle soon.

Actimel, yakult etc are very good for gut flora and especially with c diff. Worth a try?

Hi, your doc is just being thorough, it is very unlikely to be cancer but best to get checked because the earlier the diagnosis the better. They want to rule it out basically before they say 'don't worry'. Your doctor sounds like she isn't just fobbing you off so that's good.

Is probably C Diff she is thinking of, I have had it, it goes away eventually and if you are generally healthy I wouldn't worry about it at all :)

the term she used was Campylobacter .... i very much doubt its cancer too hate just hearing the word too many close experiences !! thanx

yes, sounds much more like a bug to me, hope results are back soon :)

Campylobacter is a type of food poisoning, my DH is a scientist who works on this pathogen. I'm not an expert but I believe it is self limiting after a certain amount of time. Bloody diarrhoea is one of the symptoms.

When he gets home from work this evening, I'll ask him and he'll be able to answer any questions you have about it. Smile HTH

Hi, I was infected with campylobacter a few years ago and I have to say that it took several weeks for the symptoms to disappear. Even when I felt better in myself, I still had the diarrhoea for a while (I remember thinking it was taking a long time to get better.) Doctor offered antibiotics but it did eventually get better on its own. Try not to worry, it does sound like a bug.
