Tired all the time

I don't know if anyone has any advice.
I am tired all of the time. I am generally okay if I keep going, but if I sit down to watch TV/ go to the cinema, I just nod off which must be very frustrating for DP!
I drink alot of caffeine in the form of black tea and diet red bull to keep me going.
I eat a healthy and balanced diet and exercise most days. I don't drink excessively, gave up smoking last October...
We only have dp's children stay with us eo weekend so I am not an overrun mother!
I work part time.
There is no obvious reason for me to be overtired.
The doctor ran some bloods and found me to have a VitB12 deficiency which I am now supplementing my diet with Cyanocobalamin.
I generally sleep through the night fine, have no difficulty getting to sleep, but never wake feeling refreshed.
Any ideas? If not, any tips for "getting through"...

Sleep apnea? Do you snore at all?

Other than that, in the absence of any other symptoms, there's probably nothing sinister going on. My GP told me that (literally) every other patient through his door complains of feeling tired all the time, and there's almost never any terrible reason for it. Any illness that's severe enough to cause exhaustion will have other symptoms.

Not a doc meself...but that's what my one said when I turned up worrying about the same thing Grin

Did you get tested for anaemia? That can cause tiredness. If you haven't been checked ask for it to be done.

Unfortunately, your attempts to stay awake by using red bull and caffeine are not helping you at all. Caffeine can have a negative effect by giving you a rush of 'awakeness' and energy, and then you slump, very similar to a sugar rush. Try to go without caffeine for a while and see if it helps.

Thinking about it, it could also be an underactive thyroid or diabetes. Maybe run those past your GP when you next see him.

You're buggering up your bloodsugar by drinking red bull etc.

Do you have any other symptons? Diabetes can cause excessive tiredness and so can insulin resistance.

If it doesnt turn out to be a medical problem,
how many hours do you sleep at night
Have you missed a lot of sleep in the past, and now your body could be making up for it?

Lala1980 · 13/06/2012 08:40

How long does your body take to recover? I left my full time job a year ago to set up my own business but the year prior to that was mentally and physically exhausting workwise with it being a very full on sales job - I just didn't realise it could take a year for your body to get used to being able to relax!

I would second tests for thryoid, anaemia, and also ferratin (the amount of iron stored in your body). My iron is now ok but ferratin still low, and I can't put one foot in front of the other on some days.

If your B12 is low ask for injection as B12 it is difficult to absorb in Tablet form.
