Can I get crutches from gp or local hosp? Back has gone badly

Cannot move without holding on to the wall or furniture to take the weight. Having to take slow considered steps and even they are agony. Both searing back pain and sciatica. Cannot stand straight. I suffer from disc problems so guess one has 'popped'. Although it happened yesterday as I had a fever and very very sore nerves and muscles, pain in my back and I sweeped the floor and suddenly it was like someone took out my back with a big stick so maybe relates to this bug I have.

I have taken codeine and ibruprofen, ran out of paracetamol. So far not touched it but only taken half hour ago as I had to eat something first. yesterday too, co code mol and that did not really help so hoping codeine straight will do something.

Is it possible to get crutches to help me move around ? I can literally do nothing. The kids and I have had pombears for brekky as I can't get to the cereal and there is milk spilled which my 5yo dd cleared up. Pathetic, I need to have some movement.

oh definitely the painkillers side effects winning, not the diclofenac, possibly due to large amounts.

I am going to take a look at the Sholley thank you pigeonpie. well, i took lower strength doses of all but diclofenac, lay down in bed just after postingthe last message to you all, fell asleep, just woke up. i am in the loft room, sun is blazing through the windows, i was under the duvet fully clothed and now i am sticky and horrid feeling! time for another shower...

I am also going to go buy some apricots! and you know, I am not in the mood for sex either suprisingly, and much to DHs sadness as it was his birthday Grin.

My mum used to have a Sholley! did not know they had a specific name, or maybe she just had a shopping trolley at the time. They are quite handy aren't they? you can fit a lot of school bags/lunch boxes/pe kits etc in those!

Sympathies re the back pain, I have bulging disks in lower back and am just waiting for same thing to happen,am well aware how sore it can be, hope you are better soon.

ok, so. I have told DH that the house will look reasonably tidier when he gets home from work (in about 2 hours). Seeing as I felt better I would do a little something, one room at least as its a shithole a bit messier than normal.

  1. I fell asleep for over 3.5 hours. that's taken a large chunk out of the day
  2. i can't pick up the toys on the floor, in any room as while I can bend a little, i can't get up again easily and should be avoiding this anyway
  3. I can't empty the dishwasher, so therefore I cannot re-stack the dishwasher
  4. I can't hang the clothes on the washing line as I cannot reach it without stretching, I can do that, but it hurts and need to avoid it.
  5. I can't put washing into the washing machine as a) i can't pick it up from inside the washing bin and b) I cannot bend to put it into the washing machine
  6. i can't air the bedroom which I have pretty much lived in, in the same clothes, unwashed since saturday, as I cannot reach the skylights.
  7. I cannot sweep the floors, as that is how I put my back out in the first place, therefore I cannot wash the floors
  8. I cannot pull the drag along hoover, and even if I could, see point 2.

I have stacked dishes in the kitchen and wiped the sides/cleaned the sink, put bleach around the toilet and cleaned the bathroom sink. I have taken the dirty duvet cover and pillows off our bed, but cannot take it downstairs as it is too heavy/awkward and cannot put a new one on as its too hard to do without twisting. It is pathetic that I cannot even make my house look a bit better.

So. I am going to get my hair done Grin as i can sit for 45 mins. my hairdresser is fully aware of my back problem and knows that as soon as the dye is on I am going to up and about moving around. I suspect I will regret it after a short while but I need a little TLC.

PeanutButter - Me too except physio was rubbish for me. I had an operation on my stomact and was 90 degrees for 3 weeks. Some days it was agony getting up.
Went to a plant place and my mother pushed me round in a WHEELCHAIR that was from the garden centre.
No physio at all except 'walk round as much as you can' then another doctor 'stay in bed'
ARGH! Luckily had visitors to keep my mind off the pain
(The pain was stomach - operation was there, back - bent over to ease pain of stomach, neck - looking up, legs - stiffness)
Pavlov have some Brew s, Wine , Biscuit s and slices of Cake lol Thanks

Hey guys I may have a solution. I know it's a dead thread but in case someone find this. I have a back injury causing nerve traps in arms legs and middle.

I have started sleeping and doing computer work on the floor. This alone has added 2.5 inches to my height over 5 months. Has given me lots more mobility. Swimming occasionally and using a pull up bar just to hang helps. I could barely get up before or move my arms. It still happens from time to time but definitely less. Posture awareness is a must, all the time.

Crutches help ease lower back pain but is very difficult to control upper back wise, I have to be very careful. Sometimes I use straps to tie my shoulders over my chest to keep them from rolling forard (which makes my arm nerves hurt and eventually motor failure.

The main thing is to be gentle. Wearing ear plugs will allow you to hear how much something is grinning, the trick is to move where it does not make noise if possible or to where the least noise is made.. Equally with pain or tingling. Never ever stress or force anything in any way. Unless you know what to do and you can free a nerve with directed force. Only do it if you know it has worked before with little force.

Good luck out there. If anyone has questions add George Kurgansky on facebook.
