Contraceptive help desperately required

I have been taking OC pill for the majority of the last 18 years. Microgynon and cileste mainly. I stopped taking cileste 8 months ago as my periods were irregular and moods were all over the place. I felt amazing! Discovered a healthy interest in sex I never knew I had, regular, light periods and all was fantastic. Then got engaged and decided it would be a really bad time to get PG as waiting until married next year. Back on cileste. Feel shit. Moody, headachey and sex drive back to zero. Not confident using condoms alone but I NEVER want to take a hormonal contraceptive again now I know what I should feel like without one. I'm 33 and will be TTC July next year. I have no children yet. Would a copper coil be worth considering? Are they a longer term option? Got GP appt next week but here they tend to ask what you want rather than advise do help gratefully received

Hi
Couple of things- there are many more pills available than just those two- so if you haven't tried others it might be worth thinking about that- assume you haven't had a "Pill MOT" if it's been 18 years on just 2 brands ( sorry if this is not the case.)

Copper coil is good and has about a 98% effectiveness rate; someone I knew doubled up with condoms mid-cycle etc.

Other option is the diaphram- cap- can be fiddly but some people like them. Again, not 100% but you could double up if really worried.

Condoms alone ARE safe as long as used all the time- most failures are due to not using right at the start of sex- ie during foreplay when sperm is released and some people ( sorry if TMI) think it's okay to try penetration for 10 seconds :) and not using every time. if they break then you can use the morning after pill.

Have you tried a progesterone-only pill (e.g. Cerazette)? They have much lower hormone levels and therefore fewer side effects.

I have been a condoms-only lady for 12 years now, I tried the coil, but the heavy periods and extra bleeding was unbearable.

I am 32 and have never been pregnant, so they have worked for me!

The jag and the implant are both progesterone only, unlike cliest which also has oestrogen in it. You could try them or cerazette or another combined pill or just condoms (works for us).

Thank you all for your replies. I have a prescription for microlut which is a progesterone only mini pill so I'm going to try that and see if mood/ libido improve. If not, I too will be a condoms only girl, fed up of putting hormones in me which make me feel crappy
