Post-natal hair thin, limp, dull and lifeless. What can I do?

I know I should expect to lose lots of hair from about 4 months and this is happening but this time round (post DD2) the quality of my hair is DEPRESSINGLY bad. Is there any supplement I should take? I think my diet's ok unless I'm missing something glaringly obvious. I've also just had Mirena fitted in April but didn't think there'd be that kind of side effect with it.

Can you go and see a hair stylist? I realise it's hard with a new baby, but it sounds like you might need a restyle, deep conditioning treatment and perhaps a recommendation for a volumising shampoo.

Thanks Juneau! I have a Groupon voucher booked for a swanky salon in Chelsea: highlights, cut, blowdry - the WORKS but it's not until July 14th. As you say, that's life with 2 babies, trying to find the time.... I actually had it cut in March and it's never been this dire before.

Hi I know how you feel - if my hair isn't right I don't feel right!! I have very thin brittle hair which breaks very easily because of the medication I have to take. Horsetail was recommended to me & I think that they are helping although its early days.

Hope your hair looks fab after your appointment.

You might find a supplement containing iron will help. All the vitamins marketed at women experiencing thinning hair during the menopause are iron-based. Thinning hair is a well known side effect of anaemia.

Mine didn't improve until I had about 10 inches lopped off - it was over long anyway but that seemed to revitalise it, I guess all the pregnancy hair went!

Thanks All! I'll look out for iron as I have heard that before though I do eat a fair bit of red meat and didn't have anaemia during pregnancy. Sadly hoped the GP would prescribe me a magical cure for all that exhaustion with 2nd pregnancy! Bring on this hair lop in July. Hope they do a good job after all the build up!
