So taking painkillers is a waste of time. Anyone else get periods that bad?

The only thing that helps is a hot bath but I am at work. Sad

Any tips on how to cope with the pain?

Endometriosis may be the root cause of your symptoms. I would urge you to ask the GP for a referral to a gynae asap.

Pill can mask symptoms of the underlying problem; the pill did help me a lot but it masked the endo which was still there when I came off it.

No it is not normal for women in their 40s to have painful periods!. You should not put up with it.

In the meantime whilst you are waiting for a referral, keep a daily pain and symptom diary.

Measure like ponstan are only short term and do nothing to address the underlying cause. You need to determine the CAUSE rather than try and treat the symptoms alone.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers, do not be fobbed off!.
