Painful Piles - any advice?

I've had piles for over 10 years - they seem to come and go - but they're particularly painful at the moment. I use Anusol suppositeries / cream daily but the dull ache and discomfort still continues. Wearing trousers is not great - and I live in them during the hols! - and am feeling pretty fedup. Any selfhelp remedies would be much appreciated. TIA.

So glad I found this thread as I was just about to post one! I only started getting piles since I had my DS who is now 17 months old. They were really bad after the birth, died down, but have now flared up again, and I'm finding it quite uncomfortable wearing anything at the moment! I can't find any creams around the flat to help, so can anyone recommend which is the best thing to use?

Suffered with my 4 dc- these things helped
After a good bowel movement start adding at least one heaped tablespoon of linseeds/flaxseed to your diet (need to drink an extra glass of water for each tablespoon) - I sprinkle mine on porridge or in rice and salads. This helps keep the stool soft and easier to pass, with no cramping or flatulence that other medictions can cause.

I never found anusol, preparation x etc much use but did find (barrier creams) such as good old sudocrem or a smear of vaseline helped with the chaffing etc. My HV gave me a sitz bath (bowl that fits over the toilet) that you put warm water in and immerse your bum in after a BM for relief - lovely. Warm baths. You can also use ice packs.

I ate a lot of soups and drank a lot water to try to keep my stools very loose. No caffeine - it can be a trigger for piles.

Good luck all - it can be hell

Sympathies, they are the third circle of hell.

try to have loads of fibre in your diet, drink lots of water and prund juice. I found it really helped.
