Found a lump - could be TMI for lunchtime

I found a lump last night. Its on my perineum, closer to my anus than my vagina, but definitely in the space in between.

Its not hard, and gives when i press it, it isn't sore or red (well it is now because I've been poking it). I can't see a 'head' on it.

Any ideas? I've got a GP appt later on this afternoon...but can anyone stop me worrying?

It sounds very much like a Bartolin's cyst.
My GP told me I would need surgery, but when I saw the consultant he discovered that I had high blood pressure which would need to be under control before the op.
In the meantime I went to a homeopath. First remedy didn't work. After 2 weeks of taking the 2nd remedy the cyst started to shrink and was gone after about 3 weeks. It has never returned, that was about 15 years ago.
The 2nd remedy was silica, but if you want to go that route you should consult a homeopath as what worked for me may not for you.
Good luck.

Oh thanks Bewitched. If it is a Bartolin's Cyst I will look at going to a Homeopath.

Thanks for answering so quickly Smile

Sorry- but taking a sugar pill will not sure a cyst.

The truth is that even without the sugar pill, the cyst would have gone in 2 weeks!

OP- a Bartholin's cyst is near the vagina not half way to yout anus.

Google it and you will see diagrams of where your Bartholin gland is.

But it may just be a blocked follicle-or simply a spot- bound to be something minor and will prob go away all on its own- but show dr anyway iif you can bear to!

Northumberlandlass · 06/06/2012 12:56

Thanks Amelia - I have no problem showing the GP!
I do get excessively waxed and I do suffer ingrown hairs / blocked follicle and I am sure it isn't that.

It i almost as if something has dropped..if that make sense! I am not a worrier usually - just lumps & bumps in that area concern me!

When "alternative medicine" is proven to work, it becomes something called "medicine". This is what your GP should be able to help you with Smile

Sorry, had no idea that there was a gland involved! It just sounded like the same general area as mine.
There were a good 8/9 weeks between me first noticing the lump and going to the doctor, during which it kept getting bigger. I was kind of neutral about the homeopathy but thought it was worth a try as I didn't really fancy having my bits chopped about!
I think it's the higher dilutions of homeopathic remedies that have no trace of the original substance, like 200x and 1000x. The 30x and 6x do still contain the remedy. The silica that I took was 30x.
My GP said it would have gone by itself too, so I was glad of the delay as he was so keen to rush to surgery.

ameliagrey · 06/06/2012 17:52

There have been numerous studies which have shown that homeopathy does not work. The weaker dilutions you mention are supposed to be more effective- not less!

BB I don't think you ought to be recommending something which clearly had no positive impact on your own lump:)

Your GP siad it would have gone on its own- which is what I said- and therfore the effect of the homeopathy can be discounted.

I did know someone with a blocked Bartholin's gland. They can come and go- the cysts- and they will not operate until it is very likely that no other treatment will work- they basically lance it.

OP- go see the dr who will advise and I hope you are on the road to feeling better.

thegreylady · 06/06/2012 18:10

I have had a thing called a perianal haematoma which sounds like you describe.doc prescribed cream to shrink it but said it would go on its own.
I have also had a Bartholin's cyst-they operate if it becomes infected-mine did but it popped before the operated[while I was under GA].
Whichever it is I'd go to the gp.

Thought I would update!
GP said I have a pile internally which is pushing the hard scare tissue downwards (shoulder dystocia birth - HUGE episiotomy). Have been given suppositories to get rid of the pile which should stop the lump...

amelia I didn't actually recommend anything, I just told the OP about my experience. I thought she needed answering as she sounded worried.
I apologise for my ignorance about the cyst relating to a gland of the same name, and for getting the spelling wrong.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 06/06/2012 19:35

OP, sorry, thanks for the update. Glad to hear it's nothing too drastic. x

Northumberlandlass · 12/06/2012 13:12

Bumping this back...if you can read.
Updated last week above after I had been to GP. I have 'done' the suppositories for a week and nothing has changed. The lump is still there and there is a 'skin tag' like bit too. Almost like a flappy bit of skin...anyway I am worried, really worried about it. It looks awful.

I've made an appointment with another GP for today Sad
