Strip his covers off and turn the heating down and maybe open the window a crack to lower the temp in the room too.

strip him off as much as you can and hold lukewarm flannel to his forehead.

sure it's just teeth?

If you have a medicine syringe you could squeeze it in slowly.

How old is he and what is he wearing?

Recently rang NHS direct about DS when he had a bug and temperatures of around 40. She said to keep an eye on him through the evening, keep him cool in minimum clothing/bedding and to use calpol etc. to bring his temperature down if it did get that high, even if it meant waking him.

I would also try to get some Calpol down him and if you lift his head he might stir enough to open his mouth for half a tsp at a time. Shame to wake him but a temp that high does need dealing with. Stripping them off usually helps.

39.5 is a pretty high temp. has he been OK today otherwise?

Its now 39...no other signs of any illness....other than drooling and pulling his mouth when he's awake...he's snoring now....Ive opened a window and pulled his bedding off.....will hold off for a little while with the calpol seeing as its gone down a bit.....Thanks so much for all your responses.

After all we said about keeping him cool, you have to be careful not to let him get cold though - when his temp comes down cover him with a light sheet. Doc at hosp told me that after DS was ill.

Nice conflicting advice as usual but I thought I'd better mention it.

Hope he's better soon and you get some sleep too.
