Swelling inside vagina, Pain during sex, And stomach ache? I don't feel confortabe going to our gp

I have had three weeks of pain in my vigana and lower stomach, I tried going to the walk in clinic to get it checked out and they just told me to go to the gp. The problem is we live in a little village and the only three gps that we have we socialise with (2 are best friends with my mother in law and one is dps old collage friend) and I really don't feel comfortable going to them with this. Last time I booked in because of pain in my breast it was really embarrassing having dps friend squeezing my boobs then going to the pub with him the next day .... Is there anywhere else I could go to have it checked?

You need to go to a GP. And if you don't feel comfortable (completely understandable) with your local GPs you need to register with a new practice.

Well it sounds like you have an infection, so you have to go to the doctor.

colditz · 01/06/2012 11:05

How about a gum clinic?

bogie · 01/06/2012 11:19

The walk in clinic was a sexual health clinic but they just said that I had to see the GP

Quite aside from your current problems, the GP set-up is not a good one - what about if you have bowel issues? Period issues? There are a whole host of embarrassing ailments out there, and you can't just not go and see a GP every time because they're mates.

Register with a different practice in a different place. You don't need a reason - look in your phone book and do it today.

In this instance he is a GP first and a friend second. He will be professional enough to separate the two.

How about, go to the go and insist on seeing a femal doctor, assuming none of them are female. You have the right to a female doctor, and they will help you find one.

colditz · 01/06/2012 11:23

But yes, in the long run, you cannot be registered with a doctor you are too embarrassed to talk to about your tits and fanny.

As the others have stated you need to find another GP practice either in the nearest town to you or in the next village.

No-one has ever died from embarrassment. You need proper medical advice from a GP who may also decide to refer you to a gynaecologist. You've had three weeks of pain and pain itself can be debilitating.

Bogle, are any of the GPs female? The ones that are friends with your MIL? They will respect your confidentiality, because their careers demand it.

You either need to accept the situation as it is, and go and see a GP, or as others have suggested register with a GP in a different town. Personally, I would stay with your current practice, because it is better to have a local GP but I have no shame!

A good friend of mine ended up being the senior registrar who admitted me and arrange an op and assisted the consultant during the op - all the sorts of things that you wouldn't think of putting on a friend - but it was OK, she was very professional and we continued our friendship, shutting that episode firmly behind us.

You need to go and see one of your MIL's friends. They see stuff like this everyday, really, they are not going to be thinking about your fanny when you bump into them in the post office.
