Skin feels sunburned but isn't

I haven't been able to get a doctors appointment the past few days, going to attempt again tomorrow. But this is doing my head in and wondering if any one can shed some light on this for me.

The past few days, I have felt like my back, shoulders and neck are on fire. Like they are sunburned but they aren't. No rash, no redness, no fever etc. Today though it is getting worse and rather painful. I haven't even been out in the sun the last few days it was out as had a poorly DC. Not used anything different like shower gel, shampoo etc. I have been feeling more lethargic and ache the past few days but put that down to my pain killers (for Osteoarthritis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) and looking after an ill baby.

Never had this before and a bit Hmm as to what could be causing it Confused I can't even sit back on the sofa or lay down as it hurts so much :(

Is it all over, or on one side? My first thought was possible shingles, tbh....I had it on my face, scalp and neck and I had weird burning sensations, then itching, then the blisters started to show. Also felt viral and unwell for a few days before the blisters came up.

I've also had scalded sensations from trapped nerves, but as you're in that much pain...shingles more likely...unless you've never had cp...

Or could be altogether other! Are you going to the docs? You should really, you know...

I have tried getting an appointment but it is a nightmare trying to get through to them from the moment the line opens. I might just turn up in person in the morning in the hope of getting one.

It is all over my shoulders, back of my neck and upper back. Have no idea if I have had chicken pox or not as my mother can't remember Confused

How long did it take for the itching/blisters to start?

Thank you for your reply :)

I would say shingles too - sorry...

Elibean · 31/05/2012 17:08

Yes, do turn up tomorrow for appointment - if they are like our surgery, they will have open surgery for a few hours per day??

I doubt its shingles then if its all over both shoulders, but I'm not a medic Smile
It took about 2-3 days for rash to show up, with me - I remember having weird bumps all over my head a few days before that though, no pain, just bumps and itchiness - even went to the GP (student) who decided I had cysts!! Then the bumps went down, and I got a rash near my eyebrow.

Any chance of an allergic reaction? Weird not to have any redness though! Have you tried Piriton? Antihistamine creams?

Meant to say, defo get to see a GP as if it IS shingles, they may give you antivirals. They did me, because it was on my face.

Stay away from pg women who haven't had chicken pox, too - you can catch CP from shingles if you haven't had it.

Buckingfiatch · 31/05/2012 18:12

Yes, I shall do.

Yes, the pain stings so bad when touched like it does with sun burn Confused

Really don't know with regards to a reaction to something. I haven't used anything different than I have used for years, but I suppose you can become allergic to something? So maybe. Haven't took anything though other than my usual Tramadol and Paracetamol.

Thank you so much for replying.

Welcome. Really hope you get apt in morning! Painkillers not much use with shingles, if that's what it is..... but antivirals are good. Good luck, hope you sleep!

Buckingfiatch · 31/05/2012 21:38

Thank you :)

Yes, I have noticed they aren't touching the pain at all :( was hoping they would help with needing to take them anyway but nope.
