Anyone had FESS and septoplasty whilst suffering chronic illhealth? Need to plan.

OK so I have been listed for FESS and septoplasty after a CT showed sinuses blocked, some damage to the little bones at back of nose drainage required and deviated septum. I didn't get a chance to discuss how nessesary this surgery is or how long the recovery would be ( I was expecting to be told to keep up with the drops and dismissed).
The difficulty is I have a sn child (12) who needs a lot of support and parenting and I have a chronic illness (CFS) and after 3 years of very poor health have started to feel much better and can walk and do ordinary things again. I got the imppression this surgery was important but I fear it will all set me back again. I cannot get an appointment with my GP to discuss this as only emergency appointments available. I also wonder if the gunk in my sinuses is adding to my health difficulties - maybe even kicked off the pneumnia and asthma worsening that set me on the path of poorer heath. I always feel better for a few weeks after antibiotics ( for regular chest and sunus infections)
So can any one help me to think this through, and plan for caring for my child.

I'm diagnosed with M.E. & FM amongst other things & have had this surgery a few times now - sorry I'm wiped out & sneezing right now so can only be brief?

Yes - it can be the source of the other infections

Yes you will feel better afterwards - it will affect your health in lots of ways

so all round its important to get it done

recovery for me wasn't half as bad as expected, not really much worse than when I had earlier surgery, when I didn't have FM etc - officially its 2-3 week recovery, but you can manage fine after a day or so at worse, though obviously work needs to wait & rest as much as possible - I was up on my feet & feeling the benefot the same day, which really shocked me, they even made noises about maybe keeping me in a few days - no need :)

Do prepare yourself though, I took high dose of Spirulina in the weeks running up to surgery & ate well, took magnesium & b vits e etc etc - I'm certain this all helped

if you get DLA, I believe you can qualify for back up with your son, nanny etc - or maybe speak with your family info service, they might help with that or know of respite care - sorry I can't help much on that bit as my DH helped with DD

HTH a bit

good luck & remember you need to look after yourself first in order to be well enough to look after your DS

Thank you so much rockinhippy! I feel reassured that someone else with chronic debility has benefitted. Now is a good time in that my asthma is better controlled ( it was rather brittle for a few years). Apologies for the dreadful typos. I do not get DLA but my son does - perhaps I will speak to his SW.
