Period problems, what is going on?

Bit of back history. Have PCOS and up until last year had periods every 8-10 weeks which were very heavy, flooded for first two days and lasted all in all about 5 days.

Then periods stopped being so heavy and lasted 1-2 days and only required a couple of pad changes a day. They were so light tht usually only blood there when I wiped. No set intervals between bleeds. Had a few bleeds after sex, nothing major.

Now beginning of May I started a rather heavy period, flooding again and it lasted far longer than I would have liked. Went to GP after 16 days feeling very drained and in pain.

GP prescribed Utovlan to stop bleeding and said that I need internal once bleeding stops. Mentioned that my case was unusual due to PCOS (nothing new there). Possibly have a fibroid, worse case scenario I have a hysterectomy.

Bleeding has come back (GP said it might) and is heavier than ever. Have been up every hour or so through the night and the night before to change pad. Tampons getting changed every hour. I want to cry, curl up into a ball and die quietly.

Have GP appointment again for Friday. GP will ask to do internal again but I do not want to have one done if I am bleeding. More tablets? Or sit it out and hope bleeding eventually stops?

Anyone ever had any bleeding like this? I am not sure I can go on like this uch longer. Even my bleeding after having all three DC was nothing like this.

GP should refer you urgently to a gynae to have these issues properly checked out. Such problems as well are beyond a GPs remit. The cause needs to be properly determined, you should be referred to a specialist in such issues.

I have PCOS as well and in my case it caused the irregularity of periods. I did have other symptoms (heaviness and painful periods to boot) but it was not caused by PCOS. Fibroids often cause heavy and prolonged bleeding to arise. Also the bleeding after sex needs further investigation.

Do not put up with this, seek an urgent referral and do not let the GP mess around further in ignorance.

Hi i have just put up a post on here. I have had bleeding after sex on and off for years. Many times i get up and not noticed i am bleeding and get to the bathroom looking like i have been murdered! Its horrendous and reduces me to tears lots ( i am 42). I have had a cervical Ectropian? The cells in the cervix migrate to the end leaving it very soft and mushy and when its touched it bleeds. BUT on that note a blood vessel was also found, as when i went to the loo i would drip blood randomly. Last year i had a D&C after months of bleeding (i bled for 4 wks daily) i was found to have a Poly which was sat in a big cavity (7cm). IT was sorted out/removed. Since then my peroids have been like clockwork(First time ever), and down to 3 days instead of 7+. BUT now last month i have had breakthrough again..went for scan today and i have another Polyp...so another trip to surgery im guesing. You must get referred to a Gyne, i asked my GP to referre me to a private Gynae who also saw NHS people too. My doc said he couldnt do that. SO i went over his head and wrote to the Gynae and begged him to see me, he did but i had to take his lettter back to gp to be referred again to him. You must be seen, get a second opinion. One female doc i saw once said Breakthrough bleeding and after sex bleeding is something i may just have to live with....my Gynae was stunned!

Thank you both for answering.

I will ask the GP for a referral to gynea. Typically my usual GP is on holiday so seeing locum. If no joy will see the head of GP surgery.

My last gynae suggested a Mirena Coil but i declined as i was single (not thinking that its also used to control irregular bleeding too!), and i was going to have one fitted the other wk but said i had been bleeding so hence the scan...also a doc on here kindly said that it may be the best option for me to have one fitted and the polyp removed at the same time. SO i am pestering my doc for referral again. Good luck and keep at it till you get what you want..even if you annoy them just dont let it gox
