Pain in breast

I know I must make an appointment to go to see Dr's but just wanted too know if this sounds like anyone else. I have been have pain in my right breast for sometime. Sometimes it feels like an ache and sometimes like shooting pain. I gave up breastfeeding after 2 years 5 months ago so I sort of thought it was my breasts settling down. I have started examining my breasts and keep wondering if I can feel anything. My breasts have shrunk to pretty much nothing and I am skinny so I can feel all my ribs through my breasts, so keep panicking and then thinking "oh that's a rib". I got my husband to check it out last night and although he thought he could feel something(near nipple) to start with he then decided it is the same the otherside.

Does anyone know if your breasts would take this long to settle down after feeding so long. Also both my nipples somtime look a bit shrivelled but then at othertimes don't. I keep wondering whether it could be muscle strain. Trying not to google !!

Due a period so I guess it is best to wait until I have started before seeing GP?

Breasts usually a bit more painfull just before period, so check again in a week or so. I also had severe pain in right breast, for over a year (reassuredby google that cancerour lumps don't hurt Hmm) but went last week for a mammagram (they don;t hurt as much as i was given to believe) -so really, really urge you to go to dr.

They will see you at the breast clinic within 2 weeks, it's the guidelines.

Try evening primrose oil - its good for painful breeasts.

Thank you. Did you go for a mamogram for the pain or was it routine. Did you go to get your breast examinded due to pain. Sorry for questions!

Oooo, that's weird. I gave up bf 5 months ago, and been getting shooting pains/ache in my breasts today. But, it's only been today. If it continues, I'll go doc.

I thought i it felt lumpy, also very painful to touch, so i was dreading a mammogram! The guidelines are that you will be seen at a breast clinic within 2 weeks, I went and had an ultrasound scan, and also a mammogram as they could not really see anything.

Started taking EP Oil a few weeks ago and it has really helped. Quite high does, 1000mg. Pain had almost completely gone by the time i had the Mammogram.

Try EPO - it helped me - I have fibrous breasts according to my Gp and she says that they will flare up over the month. Since EPO they've been a lot calmer - as have I Grin Still have one massive one (the unpopular one for breastfeeding) and one smaller one (much used)!

I think the shooting pains are a relic of letdown - I get them too - 6 years later. Sort of a tightening now for me, not so much shooting - who knew?

I've had aches in the right breast (under the arm and near the centre of my chest) and shoulder pain for two years and a feeling of pressure just below my rib cage with occasional cramp like pain since being about 3 months pregnant (just just over 2 years).

No idea what it all is GPs just say muscle strain or something, I had an ultra sound in my rib cage that found nothing and the GP checked my boobs once and found no lumps, so thats all thats happened, they are currently blaming it on lack of vitamin D, I've been on Diskerol for almost 3 months.

BTW I never breast fed.

Thanks for this thread OP.

I also get shooting pains in my right breast - quite embarrassing in public as it makes me want to suddenly press the breast to alleviate the pain. Must look a bit strange. Blush

I haven't bf for 9 years now, but the right one was always the most prolific producer. Don't know if this is related. Confused

I'll definitely give EPO a try; thankyou to those who suggested it.
