Sorry this is TMI, but WTF can't I wee?

I woke up about 7 this morning really desperate for the loo and ever since have felt like I really, really need to pee. But every time I go to the loo, nothing happens Confused I mean, a trickle comes out, but that's all... And there's a burning sensation. But that's it. And then by the time I've washed my hands, I feel desperate for a wee again!

Could it be a UTI? Should I go to the doctor tomorrow? It's incredibly uncomfortable, not to mention frustrating...

I don't let cystitis go for too long when I get it as I'm prone to kidney infections and they are misery incarnate. If you start to feel at all cold or shivery, straight to OOH.

Okay, I'm going to ring NHS direct instead of just doing the online thingy.

The urge to go is actually decreasing a bit I think, but I'm not sure if that's just wishful thinking!

Tis twelve hours of no urine for acute retention - which is when they catherise you. If you are peeing, but not a lot, you can develop chronic retention which can lead on to acute retention so best to see a doctor or chat to NHS direct for advice. Trust me, better to get the UTI nipped in the bud by getting some antibiotics into you asap - acute retention is painful and life threatening and catheterisation isn't pleasant.

Cystitis does make you feel as though you need to wee all the time but you're better off getting it checked.

ComeAlongPond · 27/05/2012 14:55

Right. Lovely NHS Direct lady said not to worry and if some liquid is coming out, it's okay. Keep up fluid intake, and get some cystitis stuff from the pharmacy - if fluid outpud decreases, ring back, but not to panic.

Smile That's good. I hope you're on the mend, quickly.

After you've had cranberry juice etc. try sitting in a warm bath to wee. It helps relax the muscles and doesn't sting as much.

Someone else using the water after, is of course, optional! Grin

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you :-) Picked up some stuff from the pharmacy and pounced on returning neighbour-who-is-a-doctor, who wisely pointed out that had I tried to wee every half hour on a normal day, not a lot would come out, so the problem is probably that I feel like I need to, and not that I can't... she speaks sense Blush Will pop to the doctor tomorrow morning anyway but unless it gets worse I don't think I'll go to A&E.

Thank you so much for your help, all.

Just an update - slight improvement today, went to the doc's this morning and have antibiotics so should be all sorted in a couple of days. Thanks again for all your advice, it's much appreciated!
