Weird problem "there"

I had a labiaplasty some nine/ten months ago through the NHS due to severely hypertrophic labia.. No major complications or problems and all seemed to be sortend and healed up OK - regular GP check ups in which GP said all was fine. As far as I know all stitches have either dissolved or have been removed, a few were cut at the surgery but I think most of the internalish ones were dissolvable.

Anyway - fast forward to now. Have had ongoing issues with UTIs and have just this week completed a course of amoxicillin, prior to that a week of cefradine and prior to that three nights of co-amoxiclav.

Woke up yesterday to discover one of my labia very swollen - double the size of the other. Very sore and very itchy. Inside has developed a bit of a funny smelling discharge too.

Today - has seemed OK, just a bit uncomfy, still swollen. Went to the loo tonight and had a peep just to check all was "normal".. Swollen bit has now taken on a slight shade of yellow and seems to be along the scar lines I have .. Feels weird too, all "fluidy" with a long thin - sore - lumpy bit inside!

I don't want to bother NHS Direct as I've had to attend OOH 3 times this month already due to the UTIs, and have already had to phone them this month for something else. Feel like I am using more than my share of the NHS if that makes sense and am sick of spending weekends sitting in OOH centre!

So.. is there anything I can do at home to sort things out - other than painkillers? I'm tempted to squeeze a bit and see if that solves the issue? Unsure whether I should though, it is in fairly close proximity to other important bits (!) and am worried about the chance of doing some kind of damage!

Sorry I think you need to be seen again.

JuliaScurr · 25/05/2012 20:27

Agree - go back
Hope you get sorted
I bet they wouldn't expect a man to put up with the equivalent

Was afraid that would be the answer! Will maybe see how it goes overnight.. Live in a very rural area and rely on buses to get about, nearest A&E is twenty minutes drive and they won't provide transport unless it's a clear emergency .. So will just have to wait and see how it goes I suppose. Have tried a hot bath and paracetomal and sudocrem, hopefully that will help!

Ouch good god woman go back, go back!

Hope you get it sorted soon

You could try a hot cloth over the area till you get seen.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 25/05/2012 21:18

From what you describe it sounds infected.

If it is it won't get better and will potentially get much worse if left untreated. 2 days to Monday is even quite a long time without treatment.

Worth an OOH or walkin trip I think (tho not necessarily A&E

Sounds like my dog's ear.
He had a burst blood vessel and it felt just like that.
Except for the discharge.
He had to have it drained.

Don't even think of squeezing.
Recipe for disaster at the best of times.

Phoned NHS Direct in the end who reckon I've developed thrush from the antibiotics.. Was advised to either nip in to town to the chemist and buy stuff OTC, or wait til I see GP on Monday (have an appt anyway).. Really can't afford to buy canesten so will wait til then and see if I can get the stuff on prescription! Thanks for all the advice :)
