How can I find if there's a chemist open now?

Desperate for infacol for 10 day old dd who won't calm down due to wind. No idea if late night pharmacies are open this late or not, but can't work out how to find out. Been to nhs site and found an opening hours search, but only seems to work on standard opening hours rather than rota of late nights.

Anyone know how I can find out, to avoid us all having another sleepless night?

if you have a large tescos nearby or large supermarket thats open 24hr then i think you can buy it off the shelf.

misdee · 18/02/2006 22:42

oh flip, its saturday, might not be open then.

Tabs · 18/02/2006 22:45

That's what I realised misdee - 24hrs is never 24 hrs when u need it eh?! Don't know one open near you do you, as we're not far away!

could you call a friend who has recently had a baby who might have some. I know I would understand and not mind being called at this time.

Bloodymen · 18/02/2006 22:50

any help?

misdee · 18/02/2006 22:50

trying lying her tummy down across your lap whilst rubbing her back. my dd's loved this.

Bloodymen · 18/02/2006 22:50

services outside normal hours
Some pharmacies stay open late. You can find out pharmacy opening times and the nearest pharmacy to you from the Pharmacy Directory. You can also call NHS Direct on
0845 46 47.

Hulababy · 18/02/2006 22:50

Our local paper has a list of late opening chemists in it. Have you one of those lying around?

Hulababy · 18/02/2006 22:51

Have you tried google? Some authorities/councils have it published on the net - where are you?

jenthehen · 18/02/2006 22:54

I've just remembered when my ds had terrible wind he would only settle if placed head facing down in the crook of my elbow and tummy across my forearm, gently swaying seemed to release any wind. I spent hours with him in this position.

Poor mite is wondering why mummy is prodding and poking her from all angles now!

NHS direct have recorded message saying that they are really busy and only call for emergencies, which I guess this wouldn't qualify as in their book.

Sadly no local paper (unless you've got one misdee??).

Hula - am in North Herts, just south of Beds border.

call the local out of hours service and see if they know?

moondog · 18/02/2006 23:06

Tabs, sometimes they will just scream and scream.
My dd did every night for 6 hours solid from 3 weeks to 10.
In the end,I used to just put her in her carseat and get on with stuff.

The face down position over the knees did seem to help thpugh,as did a bit of sugar in some water (I was b/feeding but read that sugar is apain reliever in an NCT book so tried in desparation.)

Infacol did nothing for us unfortunately.

Tabs · 18/02/2006 23:17

On phone to NHS direct now. They are checking for any open pharmacies nearby.

Nowhere open until 9am tomorrow, so looks like a turbulent night ahead.

Thanks for all of your suggestions ladies.

Beetroot · 19/02/2006 11:20

how was your night tab?

Tabs · 19/02/2006 12:28

Not quite as bad as i'd expected - she managed to settle for about an hour at a time after her initial couple of hours of screaming. DH fetched Dentinox (like infacol but diff brand - flavored with dill - wtf??) this morning, and she's just done a burp so big that I'd have been proud of it myself!!

Thanks so much for asking , and to everyone for all of the support last night.
