TSH levels - 14.7 is really high isn't it?

I hadn't had a blood test for a long time (my own fault really). My I am on 100mcg thyroxine. Blood test showed tsh level of 14.7. The GP would only up dosage to 125 which seems ridiculous. And n further blood test for 3 months. 14.7 seems sooooo high right? Should she have upped it more? It explains so many symptoms.

Its usually better with this sort of thing to move cautiously towards the correct dose for you, rather than overshoot and then have to back track.

Do you have any particular worries about how you are at the moment?

My first question would be what brand of thyroxine have you been on as Teva and Numark have recently been recalled as being ineffective. People who have been on these brands are showing high TSH because effectively they've not been on meds for a while.

You are both likely to be well over range. The range where I live is 0.35-6 but as a previous poster says, better to edge up to the correct dose than go wild and then go hyper.

75mcg is a baby dose. The protocol now in many places is to start at 100mcg unless you are elderly or have heard problems.

I wouldn?t wait 3 months for another blood test though. Your new dose should have settled in by 6 weeks, so if you?re still feeling rough then, I think it would be time to ask for a re-test.

Alternatively, if you?re feeling OK, then there?s no issue.

As RockinD says really
Up the dose in small steps, go back in 6 weeks for more bloods and continue til you feel well (prob tsh below 1)
Also make sure you have tablets on an empty stomach and try not to eat/drink for an hour or so after
At the next bloods, try and get vit d, b12 and ferritin tested as well, if you've been undermedicated for a while
