I'm a long term ibs sufferer, but largely ok with only a few flares in the last few years. My symptoms are usually bowel related, and I've never really had problems with nausea until I had surgery to remove an ovarian cyst in December 2011. Since then I've had episodes of nausea which have lasted up to 24-36 hours and I find these really hard to deal with. I was severely stressed the day before the surgery, felt very nauseous and actually vomited twice that day - either from stress or a virus - not sure which. The fact that I felt totally calm and not feeling sick at all when it came to go to the hospital makes me think it was stress, though.
I was bloated and nauseous for the few days after surgery but thought it was just a reaction to the GA and that I'd be ok after that. But I've kept having these bouts of nausea and I find it really frustrating to deal with. In between I can go a week or 10 days with no symptoms at all and feel absolutely fine, which makes me feel that it must be related to ibs but this all seems really weird to me. When I have nausea it's often with belching and I can also get trapped wind at the other end, which is more normal for my ibs. Anticipating eating when I feel like this can make me feel worse and I get excess saliva, or it's bad after eating, but when I'm actually eating I usually feel ok.
I have considered gall bladder or ulcers but I don't get any pain or heartburn, and none of the 'trigger' foods for gall bladder or ulcers have any side effects for me. I know you can get nausea an associated symptom of ibs, but I was wondering whether anyone else had anything like this continue so long after surgery and anaesthetic?
I know I should probably go back to my GP but I just kept thinking it was stress related and would eventually resolve itself.
