Endometriosis - Pain is so bad/Work Q

Am waiting for a Laparoscopy to confirm my diagnosis of endometriosis. Consultant thinks I do have it but nothing shows up on any ultrasound. The pain at the moment is quite bad - I've had 6 days off work in the last 3 months due to it.

It's really bad again this week - I have called in sick today as I literally can't move, everything hurts and I am in agony, despite using the strongest painkillers I can get my hands on. I don't think my employer really believes that this pain is real.

I guess I'm looking for other who suffer and know what I am going through. I am despairing tbh.

I have a type of endometriosis, I'm getting a hysterectomy in July.

Next week I'm getting an injection to stop me ovulating and and injection of HRT.

I've been in shocking pain and discomfort since november. You have my sympathies, is a hysterectomy and option for you?

Mrs F

You have my sympathies.

I know endo all too well; have had this (I know now) from starting menses at 14. I was 31 when I was diagnosed with it and I've ended up on the floor at work before now due to the pain.

BTW ultrasound scans do not detect endometriosis deposits as these are so very small. Have had more ultrasound scans than I care to remember; it was only during the surgery that the endo was seen.

I would talk to the cons at length beforehand about the lap; you do not just want a diagnostic lap because that could lead to more surgery as a result. You need to know exactly what he is going to do if he finds extensive endometriosis.

You need to ensure as well that they do not talk to you about the lap's findings when you are coming out of surgery (that does happen on occasion and is poor practice). You should ideally have a follow up appt a week or so post lap to discuss the findings properly with the consultant.

I would also grill the cons now on how much experience he has had in dealing with such cases as not all gynaes are equal by all means in this area. You ideally need a surgeon with bags of experience, up to date knowledge and an interest in endometriosis.

www.endo.org.uk is a good website.

I had an MRI scan to determine mine.
