Help - advice needed re sudden floods- warning TMI!

Can anyone advise me, is this normal?

Since having DS seven years ago my periods have become very short and heavy. Over in two days, but a really heavy two days- quite debilitating actually, and very different from when I was younger and periods scarcely bothered me.

They have been regular as clockwork though- every 28 days. Today I am on day 20 , and experienced a sudden wet feeling at lunchtime. Sorry to be so upfront- a real gush of blood. It seems to have stopped now, but was rather a shock.

I am 46- has anyone got experience- is this normal for this age- has anyone else a similar experience? Or is it likely to be the start of the menopause?

Thanks all for your advice

I think it's normal for periods to go a bit haywire in your mid to late forties as hormone levels change. I'm now 44 and mine are different to how they were in my thirties. I also get flooding. Two years ago my periods became so heavy that I had to wear a tampon and a pad to feel safe.

I ended up having endometrial ablation and since then my periods are more manageable. Before this I took tranexamic acid which you can get from your doctor and this can slow down the flow which helps with flooding.

It's worth seeing your doctor to check hormone levels and he or she can then refer you to a gynaecologist if needed.

Thank you for this, I guess it may be normal- but it's worth going to the doctors to see what can be done. Just all a bit of a shock!
