Does anyone else have Fibroids?

I've had them for 6 years, now they are huge and causing problems. I saw a gynaecologist for the first time today and the first thing he recommended was a hysterectomy. Hmm I think this is a tad radical. I've now been given a couple of drugs which I need to ask my GP for.

Has anyone managed to reduce them through diet and acupuncture?

I've suffered with them for years. I had a vaginal scan a few Weeks ago and I'm going to the doctors tomorrow morning to discuss the results. I suffer terrible pain every month, the week leading up to my period. Oddly when I come on the pain goes. Told my doctor this and she gave me a confused look and started talking about something else.

It's affecting work so much that I've been given a verbal warning. I'm scared of passing out whilst driving, something I was close to doing last month. I've fainted in shops, on buses and the works elevator...

When I see my doctor tomorrow can I insist on a hysterectomy? (I'm 38)

BrightnessFalls · 15/05/2012 00:29

I dont know if you can insist but my doctor has told me I should go for it as theres no point as Im 45 so, why prolong the agony? Psychologically its alot to get my head around.

I dont suffer with them every day but there are some days when I can feel them popping out and cant bend over. They give me terrible back ache. I find it strange that its not every day. I dont know why that is?

Hi ladies I had fibroids for years and tried everything - drugs, diet etc then various surgical procedures to help solve the problem but they didn't help and I'm now getting over a recent hysterectomy. I too felt it was an extreme measure when first suggested and although the recovery is hard work I wish I'd done this sooner. I'm 44 and thought I was too young but the other women on my ward were all of a similar age. If your family is complete then I'd say go for it. However if you're unsure go back to your GP and ask to be referred to another consultant for a second opinion. I did this - paid privately to see someone quickly - and although the conclusion was the same I felt more "at peace" with my decision. Hope this helps.

I'm not 35 yet and I'm a single mother. I'm not planning on any more children, I could meet someone though and things could change so I don't really want a hysterectomy, not yet. You need to get your iron levels checked, Kerry. I have iron pills now and they make a massive difference. I do know that fibroids are hormone related, I'm just curious to see if they will shrink if the hormones are removed from my diet. The producers use them to increase the size of cattle etc.
