Hi Everyone.

I took DS 15months to get his single measles jab privately 6 days ago. He has since had flu like symptoms a rash on his back and today a rash on his face so just wondered is the single vaccination more potent than the measles element in the MMR? I have to say if this is how he has reacted to a single jab am really relieved I didn't overload his wee system with the MMR.

You basically get the same dose as in the MMR and yes this is entirely normal.
As to overloading his immune system - am assuming nobody has ever sneezed near him - he would have been exposed to far more antigens than are present in one MMR. Rashes can be common following MMR (or even just the measles component)

Sorry - that sounded harsh - didnb't mean it to come across that way - just re-read it.

No don't worry Cod am used to the reaction re MMR. I gave my daughter it and am afraid cannot risk it with my DS as DD now has ADHD and ASD traits.

Hence my anti MMR stance it does not suit my babies but am sure it is perfectly safe for others.

Thanks for replying though.

They are the same dose but do you know that there is no single vaccine for mumps any more?

I gave my DS singles of measles and rubella and then the whole MMR course when he was a bit older.

Hi, I just posted a topic on the MMR. my boy had his 12/13 month Injections 8 days ago And he now has rash that started in his face, and now some parts of his body, loss of appetite, irritable and hot (but could be weather related too)

Hi there, my 18 month old daughter is booked in for her single measles jab on Friday. We have had to cancel a few times due to illness and she reacted badly to the immunisations she had as a baby. Are the side effects less v mmr?

Hi MeliLou - the side effects of single M vs MMR are almost the same (same risk for fever, rash) in toddlers, apart from a (mumps component derived) risk of swollen glands with the MMR. Talk to your doctor about this before you go ahead. Essentially at this point, it is very unlikely that you'll be able to ever get mumps single vaccine for your daughter, so that if you wanted her protected (which I am guessing you would at some point), she would have to get the MMR on top of whichever singles she will have had. This is a good text from the GP Plus clinic in Edinburgh that used to give M, M and R singles:

Hope that helps
