My dd is 12 and her forehead is covered in tiny pimples but with some getting angry and red. She is very self-concious about it and we have been trying a combo of mild facial wash with a product called Antiac- very expensive but has no nasties in and is supposed to be really effective with acne. However, her skin is getting worse. Anyones teens tried something which really worked? Please tell me.

There was threads on this a while back. I'll look for a link.

My DD is same age and has had the same problem the past year. I tried a few of the scrubs but most seemed to make it worse. TBH getting her to drink plenty of water in the day seems to have made a difference,

My db resorted to pills from his doctor and it worked a treat.

I struggled with acne as a teen and right into adulthood, on and off. IME, the harsher products made things worse rather than better as they made my skin more oily. The only thing I have ever got on really well with is Clinique 3-step.

A dermatologist friend recommends antibs plus clinique 3 step. It was the best solution for mine.
However remember it can take 3 months for effects to show.

If she goes to the GP they should be able to offer something e.g. antibiotics. Also Differin gel is very good, but you may have to ask about it as it is very expensive apparently so not routinely prescribed. It doesn't make my skin red/sore/irritated but seems to do a good job on the spots.

The Clinique anti blemish solutions face wash or the anti blemish facial soap are quite good. I've also heard great things about the face wash and creams that you can get from the Chinese herbalist shops, but never tried them myself.

There's a gel you can get from Boots over the counter called Silicol Skin that is also highly rated, not tried that either but maybe worth a go if you/she would prefer to keep to something non-prescription.

Freederm, Clinique 3 step, dalacin, antibiotics or if it's a girl and nothing works, I used diannette as a last resort. Salicylic acid is also very good.

EclecticShock · 12/05/2012 23:32

And water... Cleansing before bed and general vitamins to prevent getting run down if diet not good.

EclecticShock · 12/05/2012 23:33

Silicon skin, that's the one, very good.

EclecticShock · 12/05/2012 23:34

Silicol even...

Many thanks to all of you for these great suggestions. I will start her off with the Silicol Skin and Clinique 3 step (as well as making her drink more water) before going to docs if there is no improvement.
