i have tiny painful bumps appearing on my fingers and thumbs

for the last 2ish weeks or so i have had these tiny bumps appearing. no more than 2/3 at a time and on different digits. they only last about a day or 2 from first noticing til not there at all but for the last twoish weeks i haven't been without at least 1 bump. the first thing i notice is pain when pressure is applied to the area (like when passing the steering wheel through my hand or opening a door handle). almost like getting a tiny splinter. and that is when i notice that there is a tiny bit of what feels like hard skin but there is a tiny grey dot in the middle. when i say tiny, i mean the bump is about the size of an ink dot from a biro and the grey dot is smaller still in the centre of it. it is painful for about a day and then the bump and dot disappear completely but usually another one has appeared on another finger. it is on both hands and at different places on each finger/thumb so not restricted to the padded bit that types. but only on the front of the fingers not the side the nail is on. also, and this could be unrelated but about 3/4 weeks ago the inside of my right elbow got itchy all of a sudden one day and ever since it has been itchy on and off. there is no dry skin or rash or anything. just the itch.

any ideas what thsi might be? i'm thinking of seeing the gp but dont want to waste his time if it's something simple i can fix over the counter.

Hi everyone, I know this is an old thread but thought I'd ask this. My sil got some of these spots on her fingers. Then today I mentioned to her and db that I'd got a few now and db said he had too. Surely its too much of a coincidence for the 3 of us to have it (when none of us are excema sufferers) Is there anything else it could be. Dont think its hand, foot and mouth as sil has had hers about a month now and none of us has them else where. Just on our fingers/thumbs.

These bumps drive me crazy! Has anybody figured out what they are? For about a month now they have been coming and going on my finger tips and working down to the middle knuckle and the plam of my hands. They leave a little black spot when they go down. Also my hands have been tingling too, like they are asleep. Flare ups subside when I'm camping and get worse with constant cell phone use. It sounds weird but that's what I've noticed. I've seen 3 doctors and nobody had any ideas. :/

I think I get this: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyshidrosis
Mine don't look as drastic as the photo and they don't really bother me. Maybe occasionally itchy?

I third (or is it fourth) the vote for pompholyx - I get it on my fingers when it first gets hot in the summer (or cold in the winter).

I have been prescribed all-sorts for it but have so far found the best cure to be keeping it cool, giving it time and rubbing liberally with coconut oil when it feels dry and tight.

I can't believe I've stumbled across this thread. I've never been on the general health thread before but my dd is feeding again and I need to stay awake so clicked on here.

I've been suffering from very sore, red bumps which seam to be what has been described above and it's been going on for over 15 years. I've only been to the Dr twice, once it was brushed off as me being too fussy as they'd faded by the time I got my appointment and the second time the Dr spent ages looking at my hands and then he admitted he was, in his words 'baffled', I was then told that if they come and go and don't cause too much trouble (obviously more trouble was needed than the pain/tightness and looking awful) then there wasn't anything they could do!

What thinkpinkstink said about hot & cold is really interesting to me as people tend to look at me like I'm crazy when I say that they flare up when the weather is changing, my hands make me a human barometer Grin That and using too much antibacterial spray in the kitchen without gloves on.

I'm going to spend so much time Googling Pompholyx, thanks for the info MN Smile

Wow, I've had this for years and even had a pustule (disgusting work!) swabbed and still had no answer! Mumsnet to the informative rescue Grin

None of these are what the original poster is describing. I get the exact same thing as the original poster does. They are not blisters. They are just painful bumps, on the sides of the fingers that come up within days of each other one, two or three at a time, that have a grayish dot in the middle of the bump. They don't ooze any liquid at all, and are about the size of a #2 pencil lead.

Resurrecting an really old post here but I have exactly the same as the original poster. Don't seem to pop or itch. Just left with a little dot 🤷🏻‍♀️ I've googled everything here and although it sort of looks like pompholyx in mild cases, it doesn't itch and it doesn't blister or pop so idk. Any ideas anyone??

I know this is an old thread but the op describes what I'm getting. Did anyone ever find out what caused it?

Hi! I know this is a long shot but did you ever figure out what it was?? I have the same tiny red dots. I just started noticing them on my left hand. I noticed the pain first..like a tiny splinter or paper cut but after a couple days it didn’t go away and more popped up. I’m really freaked out! Came out of now where.

Did you ever find out what these were? I have had the exact same thing as the original poster appearing in the last couple of weeks.

Has anyone else identified what this is? I have the exact same issue and I'm at a total loss.
