Lots of tummy trouble and not getting better after a week - bit gross

The background is as follows.

Had a broken leg so fixed with a pin and a 2 5 weeks stay in hposital, lots of leg infections with stiches found in leg, more infections antibiotics, a tummy bug that lasted about 5 days then thrush which took ages and treatments to clear. (these are things that i dont normally get)

Well since last thursday i started to throw up and have diarrhea which wasnt helped by imodium, lots of bed rest, starved myself because i couldnt eat, the sqirts stopped because i didnt have anything in my tummy but still had lots of pain in my tummy. (i took windeez in case it was wind, didnt work) Tried to eat again but sqirts started again. I cant eat so i cant get better. I also got a killer migraine and spent the whole of the weekend in bed because of that as well.

Anyway i am going to my horrible doctors tomorrow (thats another story) and just want a bit of advice because i know that he will try and fob me off and i dont need that.

Thanks

Wouldnt recommed immodium, if you do have any bad bacteria in your gut it is best to get rid of it rather than keep it in, sorry if tmi.
The antibiotics have basically got rid of all the good flora in your tummy, so you are going to have to rebuild it..
do you have a temp..
do you have any co-codamol in the house...

jellyjelly · 15/02/2006 20:38

I dont have a temp now but for the last fews days it has taken me hours to warm up/been shivery.

I didnt take imodium for that reason for the first 2 days i think then as it wasnt getting better and i was bleeding (anal fissure) i had to start taking something.

Dont have any co codamol

You could try and gete some codeine type medicin fromthe chemists to help 'firm things up' a useful side effect of easing the tummycramps.
You could try talking something that is a direct antispazmodi to try and calm things down...
Colpermin(sp) is avaliable otc and is good for spasm and bloating.
You are probably a bit dehydrated so a few diluted sachet of dioralyte would not go a miss. If your blood levels of salt and sugar are low, your body find it difficult to absorb these things from food.

If things dont start to get better consider seeing your gp as your tummy will be more prone to nasty bacteria and (she lowers her voice to a very quiet whisper) mabye couldneedantbiotics. There I said it, put to the back of your mind will not happen you are going to get better!

jellyjelly · 15/02/2006 20:55

I think i am a bit worried that the gp will just say 'its a bug' or 'come back in a few days'.

You might need to be seen by a dr just to confirm it is just a tummy upset.
My MIL suffered for months if not years. After finally having various tests done, they discovered she has diverticular desease which is controlled by a strict diet. She also has a stomach ulcer now.

Not suggesting that you could have this, only that its often worth seeing a Dr to know there are no other reasons behind it.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

chapsmum · 15/02/2006 20:58

Thing is jelly it is a bug, but your poor tummy has no good bateria to fight it off...
Keep an eye on it, try the stuff I've said, but if you get a temp, start passing blood or your poo becomes v.v.smelly (sorry) you do need to see you gp.
You can get vitamin tablets with probiotics in them this might help...

chapsmum · 15/02/2006 21:11

doh, jelly just realised your going to see your gp tommorro, good, wont do any arm and I think youv had enough on your plate to worry about, se if he'll prescribe you some mebeverine (an anti spazmodic which works directly on the tummy) he may prescribe some ciprofloxin, but dont be dissapointed if he dosent.
Let me know how you get on jelly!!
will be thinking solid thoughts for you...

foxinsocks · 15/02/2006 21:12

jellyjelly, your tummy bug symptoms sound exactly the same as the bug we have all had. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, aching limbs, headache. Apparently, it's called the norovirus.

It's only taken me about 12 hours to get over it but it took the kids a couple of days. I imagine with all your other health problems recently, your poor body is having a hard time fighting everything off.

If you are really worried, push the doc to take a sample because then they can tell if there is a specific bug causing problems.

I found it much better sticking to clear fluids (I drank a lot of diluted lemonade) and plain non-buttered toast.

I hope the GP can help you.

foxinsocks · 15/02/2006 21:14

ps also had a lot of pain in my tummy

better that you get it checked out at the GP anyway in case you've picked up something in hospital

hope you feel better soon you poor thing

jellyjelly · 15/02/2006 21:20

I wasnt sure if there was nay serious tummy bugs that i would/could have got in hospital?

I have tried lemonade and lots of water but tummy guggles and then spits it out, with my crutches it makes it very hard to get there quickly.

chapsmum · 15/02/2006 21:21

OH jelly you've really not had it easy hav you!!
A big hug and a hand off the chair and on to the toilet from me!

foxinsocks · 15/02/2006 21:24

forgot you were still on crutches! What joy, vomiting and diarrheoa and no ability to run to the loo! Have you got some help at home?

I don't know what you can pick up at hospital but I imagine if you got an infection in your wound, it's probably not that hard to pick up a tummy bug.

I would really pester your horrible doctor - tell him/her how hard this is making your life. Can you possibly take someone with you for support?

foxinsocks · 15/02/2006 21:28

let us know what the doc says

I have to go and attempt my first night's sleep without anyone vomiting!

jellyjelly · 15/02/2006 21:30

Needless to say i got very embarrassed when husband to be had to do the washing!!! Got some help in the afternoons to look after little man, i just want to get better and get a downstairs toilet.

Apologies for spelling i just dont care at the moment.

I dont have anyone with me tomorrow which is why i can go as i dont have my son. I dont think they would even home visit.

foxinsocks · 16/02/2006 19:27

how did it go

chapsmum · 16/02/2006 21:41

bump,
how are you tonight jelly??

jellyjelly · 17/02/2006 21:53

Things are getting better, i am not in so much pain and i am eating now. ( i am still getting pain like i want to vomit and poo but getting rarer)

I weighed myself and lost 4lbs in a week.

Went to the hospital for the leg and i found the swab had normal skin etc on it and nothing to worry about and i can put another 2 stone on it taking it to 4st on that leg, but my stitch that is remaining in my leg is now coming through and leaking pus again. Yesterday it looked great.

OP posts:
chapsmum · 20/02/2006 08:47

been thinking of you jelly hope things are still going better?
How is that stitch?
