Just had an awful night, I was bathing DS and DD at about 7pm - it was time to get out and DD (4) started to climb out of the bath, slipped on the wet bath and almost did the splits, result was she bashed her vagina and it split a bit - blood was everywhere, pouring down her legs and in the bath i picked her up and it was all over me - I hardly dared to look and she was screaming, DS was screaming cos she was etc etc

Anyway took her to a and e and after a 2 hour wait the doctor looked and declared it was a small graze that didnt need any treatment - such a relief BUT Im not convinced he saw the split, its down towards her bum and he seemed to just clean up at the top - it had stopped bleeding which was good but I dont think this split should be described as small graze its about 1.5 cm long.

Im going to check on it tomorrow and nip her along to docs just in case - Im just so glad it wasnt worse, I keep cringing just thinking about it!

Angeliz · 02/12/2003 00:06

hi Beccarollo, i really DO hope your dd is ok and you too! That must have been an awful experiance for you all!) Poor little mite!

survivour · 02/12/2003 02:40

Hi Becca, one of my younger sisters did the same thing, she was about 3years old at the time, lots of blood everywhere! She is now a young woman of 28, with an 8year old of her own, try not to worry too much..... Oh and I was blamed for it..... and got wacked a few times.....

Janstar · 02/12/2003 08:22

Ouch!! That sounds painful. Hopefully it is just one of those areas of the body that bleed profusely so it seems worse that it is.

How is dd this morning?

Hulababy · 02/12/2003 14:05

Oh, poor you and DD I hope she is feeling a bit better by now.

Might be a nice idea to go to doctors just to check, as you say.

BR sorry to hear that your dd had such a nasty thing happen, hope she feels better soon.

Forestfly · 02/12/2003 14:15

Thats made me feel slightly queasy, it horrrible when you see all that blood, my son cut his head, but when i'd managed to clear all the blood it was a pin prick. Going tomorow is a good idea, but i doubt they have missed anything major. Go and have a stiff brandy, and keep an eye on your blood pressure

Sounds sore, poor thing, hope she's feeling better soon.

Beccarollo · 07/12/2003 20:01

Can anyone advise, Im going out of my mind

The cut is starting to heal although is still a bit sore the problem is her bowels!! In the first days after the accident she was very scared of having a poo encase it split open again - thus she kept it in and became constipated she also had a few accidents. Now, I keep finding her hiding away somewhere desperately trying to hold it in then soon after she has an accident, Ive upped her fruit intake, watched for signs of her needing to go and taking her up to the toilet - reassuring her etc - today she has had about 5 accidents and yesterday about the same

Its really getting to me now - what can I do to break the cycle?

Oh poor little thing. How awful for you both. No advice sorry, just sympathy xx

popsycal · 07/12/2003 20:04

oh becca - poor dd!!
it is bad enough to endure what she did but then this....
this is not the same but slightly similar
after having ds, i fet the same as your poor dd!
I asked for lactolose....not a laxative but 'softens' things
you dont want a laxative as that might make her have more accidents but something like laxalose will stop it hurting....
worth a try?
poor little thing!

CountessDracula · 07/12/2003 20:07

Oh yes lactulose is very good. I should take her to the doctors if I were you, get them to check her out and maybe they could reassure her.

Beccarollo · 07/12/2003 20:16

I think the problem is definitely the fear of going and her stopping from going rather than constipation, she has had another accident just since typing this.

popsycal · 07/12/2003 20:22

the lactalose will make it not hurt...might reduce the fear??
oh -poor dd!

hmb · 07/12/2003 20:27

The lactulose will soften the stool, but it will take several days treatment before it starts to work. So keep with it.

boyandgirl · 08/12/2003 14:07

Aanother vote for lactulose - wonderful stuff!

Lots and lots of reassurance, and perhaps a little reward for 'going' in the toilet? When we had our babies we were told to hold a pad of some sort (toilet paper?) against ourselves when we pooed, to ease the discomfort of any stitches. I wonder whether doing something like that may help her? Perhaps also moist toilet paper like Pampers Kando, or Andrex do one too, to use afterwards.

Poor both of you...rough time, hope things get better

SoupDragon · 08/12/2003 14:26

DS1 left me with a 3rd degree tear and I can assure you the fear of pooing is very real

Does it actually hurt when she has the accidents - can you reason with her that way? Lactulose was fab and, um.... fibrogel - that was the other thing I was given.
