Chickenpox or something else???

DD2 (20 months) had a few wee spots last night so we fully expected her to wake up with the pox this am.

But they don't look like pox - they are large, no real blister, concentrated around groin/upper thighs/lower back, although she does have random spots all over. They just don't look like DD1s did, she did have a mild case thou. Her face is swollen (puffy eyes in particular) and ankles and knees too. I am a tad concerned and would appreciate any views or advice?

Gomez, it doesnt xound ike chicken pox your right, however, it could be that she had an allergic reaction to something. Does the rash look like nettle rash?? Some foms of impetigo (scalded baby syndrome) can also manifest itself about these areas. Does it look like she's beeen in a bath that was too hjot? (I'm not saying that she has its just what the rash can look like)

I would say that if you feel her face is puffy you should probably speak to your gp.
Seek medical attention straight away if she becomes wheezy ect.
Are you using diferent nappies?
Is she otherwise well?

Thanks Chapsmum - you know what you are right it does look like nettle rash - kinda. They look like insect bites but loads and loads if that makes sense. They are all quite big as well.

Spoken with nurse and have an appointment for later this morning. Hopefully mystery will be cleared up then.

thats great gomez, glad you gat an appt. Loads of viral infections can cause this rash but its best to get them to have a wee look at her and listen to her chest to make sure its not an allergy. This rash can be quite itchy, medised or an appropriate dose of piriton would help.
And dont be surprised if it goes away and comes back when she is hot etc.

Hope she spot free soon x

Spot on on Chapsmum. GP reckons urticaria (I think) which if he had seen only on her he would have put down to an allergic reaction however over the past 2/3 weeks he has had another couple of toddler/young children present with the same so he reckons probably viral. The swelling is nearly away but the wee scone is in a right mess with the rash. Piriton at the ready for bedtime.

Thanks.
