Eek, Apologies as i can't think what you can do barr condition like mad to try and repair the remaining hair, and don't let her brush, comb or straighten it as that will cause more damage.

If any other symptoms (i.e allergic reaction or scalp damage) develop get to A&E.

It wasn't Schwarzkopfs' 'Live' by any chance?

Madly · 07/05/2012 20:54

Thanks for speedy reply! Not Schwarzkopfs but Clairol Nice n' Easy. Looks so simple ! Blood tests returning tomorrow and expecting no underlying health problems.

Over the last 15 days or so since using it DD has lost massive amounts of hair!

Couldn't happen at worse time. Sweet sixteen, prom soon and new school in Sept.!

Worried sick it will ALL come out:(.

Washing gently with baby shampoo and combing with big wide tooth comb.
Been to GP, blood results tomorrow!

Am certain it's the damn colouring! Any advice gratefully received.

sorrry .. not a lot of advice ....... plenty of empathy though. My youngest DD went through this when she was going through an intensive period of using colouring / straightening / hair extensions. I think her hair just gave up and most of it broke off 1- 1/2 inches over most of her head... she was devastated.

oh just re read .. has your DD hair fallen out rather than broken off hence the blood tests ????

with my daughter we tried hair scarves etc but in the end we went down the wig route .... ...... only other suggestion re DD is to find other YP support groups for those whe have alopecia and maybe your DD can chat to them via support group / chat / forum ............ support form her peers will mean a lot.

I'd reduce the washing to a minimum too. Comb it with fingers as well.

Hope the Dr has some answers for your DD. Is it coming out in patches or just thinning all over? I developed alopecia about 3 years ago, it was in very defined patches and as I have very dark hair it really showed. It was devastating, so I feel for your DD. My GP wouldn't refer me to a dermatologist on the NHS so I went privately, I was prescribed steroid ointment and after about 6 months it started growing back, by a year all the patches were filling in again. It has been fine ever since (touch wood).

The Dermatologist referred me to a wig fitting centre on the NHS, which was better than it sounds, it was a private shop that supplied the NHS. I never actually wore my wig, although I could have done, it was actually very good, but I did use a camouflage cream on the bare patches on my scalp (dark cream, like mascara but in a big tube) which made an immense difference to my self confidence. My patches were fortunately not at the top/front of the hair, it was round the back and behind the ears with just a couple of small patches on top, so I was able to hide it all with the cream and a variety of clips, hairbands.

There are various vitamin and mineral supplements that might help too, but I can't remember which off the top of my head.
