Weird Periods

Bit of a strange one for you all.

I started my periods aged 9 and for 3 years had extreme flooding/clotting style periods (welcome to womanhood!) before they settled down, all has been well since then and indeed got even better after the children and ended up as 3 day non entities, but this month has been odd. I had 2 days of spotting followed by 2 days of flooding/clotting and now a normal period that still hasn't ended (6 days so far so nothing to be concerned about). I am nearly 30 and wondered if anyone else has had such a long time of one type of period before a total switch around to something out of the norm?

Is it my age? It would worry me if it was as my family have a history of late menopause - 50+ before first signs. Has anyone had a change in 'type' as a one month wonder and then things have settled down again?

Basically i'm trying to work out if I need a trip to the doctors or not! I'm not on any hormonal contraception that could be causing this btw.

Hi - I can sympathise. I started my periods aged 15 and they were always very regular and light (lasting about 5 days). This continued until after the birth of my second child (he is 4yrs now) when they completely changed. Now they last about 8 days. I usually have spotting for a couple of days, followed by a couple of days of light, followed by 2 days of heavy flooding/clotting and ending in 2 days of spotting! I went to the doctor but she just said that periods can change after childbirth. She did an internal and everything looked fine and smears have come back clear so I guess it is just something I have to put up with.
