Tampons hurt me...what's going on?

OK, so I am dealing with this 6 years late, but...

Ever since I had ds1 6.5 years ago (forceps delivery and 3rd degree tear), tampons really hurt. I think it's because they fall out to the entrance of my vagina, so it hurts there and is v uncomfortable to walk. Could it be something to do with the tear? Or prolapse (what is it?). My bladder control is fine, but maybe there is something up with vaginal wall?! Would pelvic floor help?

I am getting a bit sick of wearing pads and also a bit worried as to why this is happening. I did have a couple of years off periods whilst pregnant and breastfeeding twins in the 6 years, but it is annoying/ worrying not to be able to wear tampons.

i have had this since having children as well, what i found much better are the tampax pearl tampons, no idea why but they are fine!

so its worth experimenting with different brands :)

Oh ok thanks. I tried my sister's Aldi's own at the weekend and it killed. I will try them!

I do have to direct them at a slightly different angle than pre children, think I have a bit of a prolapse.
Have to angle more further back and up, non applicators are easier.

It could well be a prolapse. We have a prolapse thread on this board if you want to join. DS was born in 2005 and I was dxed with bowel and bladder prolapse in February. If it is prolapse then dependent on the level of prolapse it may well not improve it to do pelvic floor exercises, although they may stop it from deteriorating.

Go and see your GP and they should be able to very easily examine you to check for prolapse. If it is then they should refer you to a gynaecologist.

prolapse thread

MerryMarigold · 07/05/2012 23:16

Thanks Ben10. I have been wondering what a prolapse is. My ds was also born in 2005.

Hi Merry,

I have the same thing with tampons and have been diagnosed with a minor prolapse after birth of DD in 2010. I moved to towels, but lately have been wondering if mooncup would work ...

MerryMarigold · 10/05/2012 10:53

Personal question lionsntigers, so feel free not to answer...does this affect sex for you?

Hi Merry,

Not that much. It can be a little uncomfortable at times though. I think the problem with the tampons is that when I'm stood up there's (TMI warning by the way) a kind of weight pushing on them from above, so they get sort of pushed out, and sit too low down. When I'm 'lying down' (ahem Wink), it's not a problem so much

Ben10NeverAgain · 11/05/2012 11:14

Merry It did for me. I lost the sensation and it became v uncomforatble.

NagooIsBuildingAnArk · 11/05/2012 11:15

A mooncup is worn lower down, so it might be better.

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 11/05/2012 11:19

I have also had this problem since ds was born 17 months ago. I read a thread on here which rercommended lillets as they expand widthways.
This month was the first time I tried them and am sold! I bought the applicator ones and once they are in can't tell, and almost as before giving birth.
I am also concerepned I might have mild prolapse, and as never had post birth internal (forceps, epi and tear) I don't know but will one day get round to getting it checked

DukeHumfrey · 12/05/2012 08:26

Tampax pearl expand widthways, so that might be why that works.

MerryMarigold · 12/05/2012 23:53

Thanks all. I will try those other tampons and look into possibility of prolapse too. What would I do without MN? Smile

So glad I found this thread!

Just in middle of first period since giving birth (OP+ Extended pushing+ Forceps+Epi) to DC2 last July.

As well as being the period from hell, my sodding super plus tampons keep falling out of me! They kind of work their way out and, as you can imagine, it's very uncomfortable when they do. Something has obviously shifted around inside. Off to the GP's I go then. Thanks for tip about the Lilets Lainey

ThatVikRinA22 · 18/05/2012 23:02

try lil lets with an applicator - they dont expand length ways but do expand width ways only - they are the only ones i can wear now that are comfortable.

but not everywhere sells them - i stock up when i can!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/05/2012 23:06

Same for me. The mooncup didn't work though, it wouldn't seal because of the mis-shapen state of things, so it always leaked. I can use applicator tampons with a bit of care. However I had a Mirena coil fitted about 3 years ago, no more periods, just the odd bit of spotting, I only use one or two tampons every couple of months now.

wishiwasonholiday · 19/05/2012 02:16

I can't use tampons either but a mooncup is fine which I was surprised at, couldnt go back to pads now.

needsomesunshine · 19/05/2012 21:09

Is sex uncomfortable too? Some people put a bit of lubricant on the tampax to ease at first.
