Not yet 40 and going to have a hysterectomy

I have been having heavier and heavier periods since ds2 was born three years ago, and it got to the stage where I almost fainted. Well off to the drs I went (in Oct), and was put on massive dosages of iron. Things didn't get much better, still felt cr*p so went back again and was referred to a gynae.

So the up shot after scans and a hystopcy (sp?) is that I have a bicuspal uterus, (means it is intwo halves, rather like a love heart), a prolapse and I am going to have to have a hysterectomy.

Although we said we were finished with children, it still is a shock to know I could never have any more. I will be 40 in May, and the way the dates are going will be recovering from op on my birthday.

It is going to be done from "down below" so I will recover faster. Just felt the need to tell, as feel sorry for self, and ddh is getting sick of talking about it!

My sis had one at 36. As you say, it was a shock having to come to terms with the fact that she couldn't have any more children, even though she didn't want any more. Physically she recovered fine, and now (44) thinks it was the best thing to have done, as it solved a lot of problems she had been having for a long time. Hope you are feeling more positive soon

i read an article once about sex after a hysterectomy (just incase you were wondering) and the women who had wrote in had said it had got better than before they had the hysterectomy for them once they'd healed fully. it will be hard to accept that you can't have any more children even if you don't want them. are there any support groups available for you?

i hope you have a quick recovery from your operation.

I don't know, but as "luck" would have it, my good friend (without children) had the same ope last year so know what I am going through.

I'm just the tyoe of person who likes to talk things out.

My mother had a hysterectomy in her late 30s. Never looked back. Felt so much better afterwards. (This was someone who felt that her periods were more painful than being in labour)

Good luck!
