What constitutes a heavy period?

Third period after DD2. First two were really light. This one is very very heavy. I'm filing a moon cup to the brim every hour and this is the third day. Before DD2 they were pretty average, this is my first experience of anything heavy. So I don't know is this normal (I know all bets are off after pregnancy but...)

Does it sound right? I hope this isn't going to be me every month now. How on earth do you cope with it? I'm not even sure the trusty moon cup is up to the job as it's leaking terribly despite me being a long term user.

No experience of mooncups but generally if you are soaking a super night time pad every hour for several hours in a row that would be considered heavy.

GP can prescribe magic tablets to reduce the blood loss though if required, you definitely can't be pregnant? Using any contraception?

That sounds heavy, and I could write the book! Just make sure your iron intake is topped up, I swear by Spa Tone sachets.

The magic tablets are indeed magic! I was having stupidly heavy periods and these tablets have made it all so much better! I have only taken them for one month but I honestly felt like a different person! No embarrassing leakage or constant changing of pads, being able to get dry after a shower without... Ok tmi. I luffs them. Grin

Hmm thanks. Might be worth mentioning it to the GP next time then. The moon cup is great except I can actually see how much it is instead of guessing from pads etc. It seems to have been pints, it's a wonder I'm still conscious!

Anything over 80 ml per cycle is heavy. The mooncup holds 15 ml, so you are certainly heavy. You knew that anyway! I normally have heavy periods, and the mooncup is useful to be used with pads, but not instead of.

As well as considering over 80 ml being heavy, as it's hard to measure this for most women, it's also about how much it disrupts your life emotionally/socially.
