am I going to get it too?
am I??

Ds2 has it and I am praying no-one else succumbs. We are supposed to be going down to Wales on Saturday. It's been really nasty - I've been quite worried about him.

harpsichordcarrier · 13/02/2006 23:40

dd1 was really bad at the w/e

I have scrubbed every vomited upon surface like those two mad women from How Clean is Your House, I have washed my hands so much my hands are sore, I have poured bleach down the loo and the sink, he has had his own towel, I have not washed the vommed upon bedding with any other washing...I've tried, you can grant me that.

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:42

Nah course not Harpsichord.. we're fully grown women and made of much sterner stuff! Stop thinking about it.. you'll make yourself feel sick! You'll be fine! Men love and opportunity to be ill.. and puke in an almost recreational fashion!

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:42

PML @ "vommed upon bedding"! Mners have such a lovely way with words!

SorenLorensen · 13/02/2006 23:43

Ds2 has peeling lips - like someone who has been in the desert for weeks - I've never had this with either of my children before. He looks poorly and he smells...not nice (even he noticed, bless him). It is a really nasty bug.

harpsichordcarrier · 13/02/2006 23:43

that's more like it SJ....

I'm a bit of an expert with vommed upon bedding. Dh puts it straight in the washing machine...not good...you have to rinse it first.

SorenLorensen · 13/02/2006 23:45

Sorry. It has been really horrid though. And I've had to watch so much CBeebies...

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:47

I have put it straight in the washer often.. I am a bit of a .. what's that word.. for someone a tad puke phobic! I just can't scrape off the chunks! I let the washer handle it.. and then put it on a boil cycle whilst empty. Not very cost effective or envionmentally friendly.. but cannot handle (literally) anything 'vommed upon'...

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:48

(Although you have to remember to inspect the covers before tumbling them.. or you may end up with crunchy, nice-smelling, sort of fossilised vomit chunks on your sheets!

harpsichordcarrier · 13/02/2006 23:48

yes thanks ladies [irony]
I have certainly come face to face with a sufficient amount of vomit this weekend.
can I have escaped though?
i demand reassurance!

OP posts:
SorenLorensen · 13/02/2006 23:49

But the...chunks...don't go away then. And - even worse - dh hs sometimes then put it in the tumble-drier. And then you have to empty the fluff filter...

I'll leave it to your imagination.

SorenLorensen · 13/02/2006 23:50

Well, touch wood and all that's holy, I'm OK so far. And I have done the lion's share of puke duty.

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:50

Sorry Harpsi.. got carried away there!

YOU WILL BE FINE! Believe it!! 2 summers ago, all my four (that includes DH) vomited for 3 weeks, production-line fashion.. and I never got it!

harpsichordcarrier · 13/02/2006 23:51

I REFUSE to be ill
[resolute]

OP posts:
SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:51

(Yes Soren.. fossilised vom in the filter too.. forgot that! )

SorenLorensen · 13/02/2006 23:55

The word is emetophobe, SleepyJess (I like to be helpful).

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:58

Ah yes.. that's the one. Well I'm not one of those.. I just don't like puke and when the kids barf I am the one who runs off mumbling about clean sheets and detergent (as long as DH is here of course!)

True emetophobia is terrible.. I know that from reading threads on here about how it rules people's lives.

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 23:58

Altho have discovered I can handle DS2's puke if I have to as he has a dairy free diet.. which makes the puke far less offensive!

harpsichordcarrier · 13/02/2006 23:58

I don't much like sick but
I HATE being sick

OP posts:
SorenLorensen · 13/02/2006 23:59

Yes I know, it must be grim. I don't like it but I can just about cope with my own kids (though I will admit to a bit of retching while clearing up over the last couple of days). Real phobias are crippling.

SleepyJess · 14/02/2006 00:00

Me too harpsi.. I have to take to my bed and ask DH to phone my mum! (I am 34 on Saturday!) Dh meanwhile pukes with a really casual air and can even talk while he does it! (See.. almost recreational..!)

SleepyJess · 14/02/2006 00:05

Oh dear... Can you chat to her about these issues? Even lightheartedly, about the food..eg a 'when in Rome' (ie daughter's house) type comment! Tell her she could let her hair down once in a while, because it wouldn't have a negative effect on their healthy fitness and diet regime.. probably the reverse.. like 'a little of what you fancy' type thing?

Talking - however you manage to go about it - it usually the best policy. At the very least it stops a lot of pent-up resentment which is what you sound like you are suffering from most!

And they will both be gone before long!

Sympathy though.
