Yuck. I used to have feet that men fell in love with...now I have a bunion coming like my Mum's and I have never worn silly shoes. I do have narrow skinny feet and my toe has butted against the end of too short shoes in the past, as they were a tiny bit too small but stayed on, so it does bend slightly .

I now have a bunion coming. I AM going to see a podiatrist and have private health cover if I need an op.

I've also got a lump on the top of the joint which my DH got and was told it was arthritic- he had it operated on and is fine- they shaved the knackered bone away.

So- my bunion ( or is it the other lump) gives me pain on walking - I exercise a lot. It doesn't rub on the side of my trainers or shoes, but it just hurts when I walk- like a burning /ache in the joint. After a couple of miles it sometimes stops hurting. It doesn't hurt to touch it.

Is this bunion pain or is it an arthritic joint?

And has anyone had bunions operated on- successfully????

Interested to know. I am having trouble with one of my feet.
Painful in shoes that used to fit. Hot pains near the ball of my foot.
Hurts to bend my toes. :-(

I have a Morton' neuroma and a bunion on the same foot and god do they hurt! The bunion hasn't been cause by bad footwear but because of how I walk-I over pronate. Im seeing an orthopaedic surgeon the week after next and I won't be leaving without a promise of surgery!

Mary poppiins that sounds very like the pain I get from the neuroma, google it and see your GP. Its diagnosed by ultrasound, and it can be treated

Hi, I have bunions and neuromas, last year was so painful , I had to buy some things from boots that went between my toes to basically stop my 2nd toe from actually touching the ground, as everytime my neuroma hit the floor I'd have pains shooting up my toes and want to cry..... Went to podiatrist, helped a bit, but my saving grace has been fitflops. Have the trainers, sandals, clogs, boots and no pain in either bunion or neuroma! Also sketchers boots work well too - the tone-ups. Good luck, oh, and cloggs.co.uk are the best place to buy them....

I have bad bunions but decided years ago not to go for surgery. The doc said to me: you have a choice - painful surgery, or wear wide flat sensible shoes for the rest of your life. I took the second option. I'm not vain anymore.

Mine partly caused by inherited foot shape which includes a long big toe, plus due to ignorance for years I made it worse through wearing shoes that fit the rest of my foot, but resulted in my big toe being pushed over towards the middle of the shoe because of its length. Bad angle for the bunion joint, and lots of extra weight on that joint resulting in mishapen feet and enormous bunions. Crap.

As long as I wear comfortable shoes with plenty of room for my toes, I don't have much pain anymore day to day. I have actually improved things a lot by doing the exercises given to me by the podiatrist. The best one is straightening my big toe - firstly with help from my hand or an elastic band around both big toes, and then teaching the muscles to learn to hold my toe straighter and stretch the ligament.

I had bad bunions. I had the op on both feet at the same time. Eight years later I'm absolutely fine, and very, very glad I had the op. It was very painful at the time, but I was down to one pair of very wide shoes and was in pain all the time.

Personally, I would recommend you have the op.
