tattoo removal - how do I go about it?

I had a tattoo done when I was 18 (nearly 20 years ago) and have wanted to have it removed for a long time. It's not that awful or anything but I just want it gone! I have pupa through my DH's work but think would still have to pay for it anyway. I'm just not sure how to go about it and don't want to end up at some dodgy clinic. Should I go to my GP first??

My DH is going though this at the moment. He is using a company in LOndon called I think SkIns (?)

Be warned it is very expensive and according to DH twice as painful and then some having it removed. And takes a long time.

Also you have to be really aware that you will smell your skin burning and you will come home looking like someone has poured chip pan fat all over you.

But good luck. DH says he wishes he had never had them done and is desperate to get rid of them. He has lots of photographic evidence to show the DS' when they grow up.

I'm having one removed as well which I had done when I was 17 (must be a Queen thing!).

I get it done at my local NHS hospital's laser clinic, I would google and see but check their training etc. The ones that offer Groupon vouchers make me go hmmm.

It hurts but less than actual tattooing. Take some paracetamol before averted it done. I don't recognise the burning thing Jam describes and they tape on a cooling gel dressing.

Be warned though that not all tattoos come off. The greatest success is with black ones and least with blues and green (which is present in mine). Mine will probably not come off completely so I may well end up getting it inked over. I have other tattoos but want this one gone because of the associated memories. Also you cannot go into the sun for several weeks after treatment so I am having a break until after the summer holidays.

thank you, that's really helpful. Will do a bit of searching and check the hospital. Bit worried about it hurting - but it's not in a sensitive area or anything :)
