Question re:back pain (one of those really irritating DIAGNOSE ME type threads)

I have been to the GP over this last summer btw, and plan to go back soon btw. I have lower back pain which has gradually been getting worse for a few years. I am usually OK sitting (but sometimes get hip pains after very prolonged periods of sitting, eg. on car journey) or walking or exercising, but have problems standing still, or with the stop/start motion of pottering round the shops. It's also uncomfortable standing over sink/wash basin for more than a few minutes. Does any of this ring bells with anyone?

On bad days I just take some paracetamol, which doesn't always help much, or if I'm at home use ibuprofen gel (GP recommended the gel). GP reckoned it was back spasms btw.

If you're looking for a dodgy Internet diagnosis, how about ankylosing spondylitis.

TheLightPassenger · 02/05/2012 16:46

thanks for the link Damsel. I strongly doubt it is that, as I am not affected in the night, and rest does help as well as exercise. And I suspect what I experience isn't serious enough to be something like that tbh.

I think you can have it mildly too. But, as I said, it is a dodgy Internet diagnosis.

ibuprofen is antiinflammatory so might be better

TheLightPassenger · 03/05/2012 17:42

yes you are right Miss Grim, but I am always nervous as to whether ibuprofen will affect my erm digestion etc, whereas am confident it's not an issue with paracetamol.

Could be your feet. I get it cos I'm slightly flat footed.

Maybe try some otc insoles from scholl.

hmm, interesting suggestion, I think i am very slightly flat footed (but can't 100% remember) when a running shop did gait analysis on me, think it might be worth getting "done" again. Am thinking of treating myself to a session of private physio at some point in case it's anything obvious like that causing it.
