What can I do about pain in the arch of my foot - maybe from running?

It's really sore! I run a bit, about 18-20 miles a week. This week I seem to have done something to my foot. It's painful along the arch, only on one foot. My heel isn't sore. It's not a constant ache, if there's no weight on it it doesn't hurt. It came on gradually, I don't think it was a sudden sprain.

I managed to complete my run on Monday, but only by running on the outside of my foot (does that make sense). Yesterday I could only walk and that was with a limp and gritted teeth. Seemed ok this morning when I woke up but by the time I'd walked ds to school I was limping again.

Is this going to get better by itself? And does it sound like it's from running or something else? (If you could all agree that it is because I need shiny new shoes that would be nice).

Have you got newish shoes?
I got this when I got new shoes that were a fraction too small. If my toe nails were too long it caused me to get cramp in the arch of my foot...

I got my running shoes before Christmas. Could it be the shoes I wear during the day? I usually alternate between two pairs, but I've been wearing the same pair every day for a couple of weeks.

I'll check my toenails!

It could be plantar fascitits, I cant diagnose over the internet of course but it isn't always bi-lateral and it can come on for no reason (mine certainly does).

Please dont alter your running to run on the outside of your feet, you'll end up with two problems not one! Try reducing the distance, rolling the foot on an ice cold coke can, iburprofen or similar if you can take them.
