Hi, I have to go and pick up a machine after a sleep study. Can anyone tell me anything about the machine and condition.

I went to see the consultant, he couldn't find my results so an administrator booked me for the app!

I'm guessing it's a cpap machine. They should have shown you how put to put the mask on as it's a bit fiddly with the head gear. Either that or your having overnight oximetry where you put a probe on your finger and it monitors your oxygen saturations to see if they drop at night.

I don't know an awful lot about it but as far as I know it's where you stop breathing at night and your body takes over if you will and you often wake yourself with a huge snore. Also you can fall asleep anywhere.

Sorry not much help it's a long time since I worked in respiratory and I'm a bit sketchy on it. Someone with a bit of knowledge should be along soon hopefully.

Haven't you been told how/why to use it?

Hi, thanks for the responses.

I went to see the consultant a few weeks ago, some of the results were lost, so he couldn't give me all the results of all the tests then. He didn't book me in for any more appointments, said he would email me the results and never did, I tried to chase him up twice and I heard nothing.

I passed the fact that there were no results, on to the origional consultant who I am having surgery with, who wanted to check me for some things prior to surgery, and I went to the department I did the sleep study with to ask them to let the surgery consultant know the results as the heart/breahting consultant didn't have the results and never got back to me as promised.

Today I got a call from someone at the hospital to tell me to come in on Wednesday to pick up a machine and a DVLA letter as a result of the sleep study. She said she couldn't tell me if I have sleep apnea as she was not a consultant. So I am 99% sure I have sleep apnea.

I am worried about the DVLA letter, after googling, I think I will have my driving licence taken off me, do you know how long it is before the treatment is ok for you to get your licence back?

Don't worry re the driving licence, as once you're on successful CPAP treatment the hospital will liaise with DVLA to confirm you're ok to drive. Check out this discussion on our Sleep Apnoea Forum hope2sleepguide.co.uk/forum/topics/sleep-apnoea-and-the-dvla?commentId=6381638%3AComment%3A161 and if you put a search in you will find others.

Hope you're managing with the mask and CPAP machine, but again, there's loads of help on the forum.

You are now on the way to better health and should soon be feeling the benefit. Good Luck :)
