Colpoperineorraphy - anyone had one?

Hi,

Pretty sure that's spelled right!

I was wondering if anyone has had one of these (perineal repair surgery), and if so, what the recovery was like. I've been told to take 6 weeks off work, but I was wondering what I'll be able to do during those weeks. Will I be completely immobile for a week or so, or in much pain?

I did ask the surgeon, and the nurses at the pre-op appointment, but they were pretty vague, with lots of "possibily" and "depending" and "see how it goes". I like to plan, and if I'm going to have to ask my MIL for help, I need to get my head round that :)

Personal experiences welcome Grin

well I have had pelvic floor surgery that included part of the perineum if thats close enough Wink ....... you might find someone on this thread

If you have perineal stitches then sitting may not be your favourite occupation .... well not unless you have a ring cushion or you half recline on the sofa with legs raised (I had a beanbag and pillow) . MOst people manage with ibuprofen and paracetamol ( maybe stronger like morphine or codeine first day or two in hospital) which within a week or two can be dispensed with.

General advice is no hoovering / heavy housework / lifting DC for 6 weeks .

I found even bending down to get light stuff out the bottom of the fridge uncomfortable and pulling on the stitches.

You might want to stock up ready meals in the freezer for first week or two. Depends on how quick you get sent home but best have someone there especialy at night for a few days as you might feel a bit ugh from the aneasthetic. Shopping is another thing best having help for ..... or do some on line stuff that will deliver.

it late and I cant think of anything else atm, sure there will be more .... why not pop along to the above thread, I am sure you will get pelenty support from the "fallen fanjo" club !

Brilliant - thanks for the link.

"Fallen Fanjo" made me giggle - best avoid it after the operation Grin

I just had a rectocele repair and perineum rebuil one week ago.
I felt great after the surgery and started walking right away. Now though
It seems I have an infection, maybe of some of the
stitches, and I have had low grade fever. No antibiotics yet.
I would not want to go back to work yet if I had to,
top many unknowns at this point!
