Is there anything that causes finger joint pain and swelling apart from some kind of arthritis?

The middle joints on my fingers are painful and swollen - I'm waiting to see a rheumatologist but worrying a lot about what it could be! I'm only 30 :(

And I can't take oestrogen pills. Why isn't there some kind of pill men can take!?

There is something I didn't know....I learn every day about this, even now. no difference for me as I have never taken a progesterone based pill, but still very very interesting.....thank you trickle.

Lyme disease also makes you feel rotten in the early stages, so you would have noticed that, temperature etc.

Will go and have a proper read of that living with hypermobility reference...not seen that before.

All contraceptive pills have some level of progesterone in don't they?

There is a pill men can't take...it is the wife nagging you pill! (Oh sorry is that just my dh! Wink)

I have a coil these days, very low hormone dose, and I have no periods at all...so double bonus really as I used to get terrible period pain.

Trickle · 24/04/2012 16:06

yesall contraceptive pills do have progesterone - you either get it in lower doses in a mix with oestrogen or on it's own, it's the on it's own that causes the problems as far as ican see with the littleresearch I've done. So you'd need totake one with a higher dose of oestrogen - which you can't take...

I seem to metabolise drugs really efficiently as well, I'm short but not petite - I ended up being given morpphne (looong story) but I only need about 0.2ml to be effectve, lowest dose is supposed to be 5ml Shock

Google books is fab!

Oh and I use condoms, can't be doing with hormones they mess me up

salamanda · 24/04/2012 16:12

Thanks Trickle, I can deal with not taking hormonal contraception, I generally feel better off it than on anyway. Good job they only gave you a small dose of morphine to begin with! Shock

My twopennyworth is that my mother has gout .
Very swollen finger joints on both hands .
I have a feeling that fructose ,like you find in fresh fruit and juice can cause a flare up ,if you're prone .
Hope you get it sorted .

had a fab appt with brilliant pain clinic (if you end up in pain for a period ask for a referal) pharmacist who listened to how much Ireacted to everything else and suggested stupidly small dose :)

TheToadLessTravelled · 24/04/2012 20:48

On a lighter note - I had very swollen hands and incredibly painful finger joints last year, could hardly hold a pen. Turned out I was pregnant and that was my first symptom :)

salamanda · 24/04/2012 22:37

That's amazing thetoad! I hope it turns out to be that!

Probably of no use whatsoever, but my right hand in particular swells when i am in a few months session of hot flushes and been using the computer mouse a lot. My hands also tingle with the warmth from the batteries of the tv remote control.
