Just wondered what folk's experience was. I'm just back from my first consultation for a persistently sore neck and back

Went when I was teens after a gym accident - it took a few sessions, but I was well and truly fixed after. Took DD at about 5 weeks for colic too, and was amazed at the results.

I think chiropractors are unsung heros!!!!

I think it varies. I have had lots of lower back problem following 3 disc protrusions and various trapped nerves. I went to a chiropractor and he really helped. But I know 2 people who have been to the same guy and they didn't find it helped. One was my DH and he got more joy from an osteopath who was also a yoga teacher, who could show him specific yoga poses to do at home.

well I have been on and off for years with varying successes.

physio was better tbh. You have to learn how to sit and move properly.

I went for sciatica after having my dd - the guy took £ 50 for a seesion and I went twice a week - then weekly - for ages (luckily costs covered by my health insurance) before I stopped - and pain went away by itself.
My dh went with severe back pain (different guy) - again twice per week for about 3 weeks. Turns out that my dh had 2 slipped discs which were causing nerve damage and needed emergency surgery - and I now wonder whether the chiropractor pushing down on his back actually caused more harm than good.
I will never go near another one!

I am lucky I guess - I live very near a chiropractic college, and by being treated by a student, it costs a fraction of the normal costs.

I have suffered from very mild back pain since my early twenties and just kind of lived with it. Some days it wasn't too bad -other days it was really quite uncomfortable and I needed painkillers. After the birth of each child it seemed to get worse and worse. A friend of mine recommended a chiropractor and tbh I was really sceptical. But after my 3rd child my back really did hurt so I went. Wasn't cheap but it was the best money I ever spent. I no longer have any back pain. I have to go every 3 months to keep it in check though. I would def recommend it.

the Canadain Chiropractic association refused to co-operate with the Canadaina medics into research of CSF leakage after neck manipulation. There were a few well documented cases of people presenting at the ER with this after chiropractic treatment.

CSF = cerebrospinal fluid.

Blimey - I'll keep an open but wary mind then!!

Well quick update folks - so far I've had 3 treatments and I have to say that my neck and back have felt much better. Not the most pleasant treatment to endure, not painful, just unnerving hearing all the clicks. The x-rays that were taken rather alarmed me somewhat and showed my spine to be kinked and my neck out of alignment. Not cheap but the relief from pain is worth it so shall keep you posted.
